sorry I haven't been ignoring you - since Saturday I played catch up on emails - only 7000 and 300 spam - since yahell puts mine in spam...

I had to take time to deal with loosing my FIL - he would have been 98 in June

I always get my best cartoons from Akiba

if you don't get satisfaction from Adult Protective Services - try the 800 Adult Abuse phone number - it is anonymous

also go up the chain of command - the media

it is person abuse

having worked for 2 1/2 years in a nursing home - well it was easier - if I had a problem or saw something - I wrote up a memo and put it on the Director of Nurses desk - it was immediately taken care of

one day it dawned on me I hadn't seen someone at lunch or breakfast for two days - so I bopped down there and asked why - we had missed them - they flat told me there was a boo boo on his hoo hoo - my residents were nothing if not forth right - so I went down to the DON's office and smiled sweetly and repeated verbatim what I had been told. Our DON was 5 feet tall and she could outwork any of the floor staff - she called the floor nurse and in words of one syllable told her she had 10 minutes to check out the boo boo - treat it - document it and get a written report on her desk - I slipped out - it was done

everyone except the dietary manager had worked the floor at one point or another - I was an aide back in the day and I came home with an EMT to work as a house parent for mentally challenged adults - I worked Hospice as an office volunteer and bereavement coordinator - I worked with therapeutic foster kids - then willow park with up to 100 residents - then Red Cross for the troops God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

Hi Anne,My condolences for losing your father-in-law… It looks he lived quite a long life.Only 7000 e-mails, huh? I thought I was bad! A bad day for me though is about 2000 e-mails.

In Canada, we do not have Adult Protective Services and I'm going to assume that that number you gave me is for the states only. Having said that, Alberta has an act called the PROTECTION OF PERSONS IN CARE ACT. The hospital is legally obliged to report the incident to them and my social worker here is also making a report. On top of that, I'll be submitting my own complaint once I've had a chance to clarify a few points in that letter. These people can, and likely will, bring charges on her for assault and battery.

I'm lucky to have some VERY vocal friends… One of whom also lives in long-term care. I love them, but they are also the definition of the saying " with friends like that, you don't need enemies. " I kept quiet to them at first because I knew that had they known it they would be down at the had nurses desk yelling the poor lady into shock!… Even though she had nothing to do with the incident – nor was she in charge at the time.

I believe the issue is being dealt with and I'll certainly keep everyone up-to-date as I get more news. Thank you all for your support; I'm proud to be part of the group that is always there when people meet the most.
