My immediate thought: hypothyroidism. I know you say

that thyroid problems have been ruled out, but have you had FREE T3, FREE T4,

and the two antibody tests done? If not, it's still a distinct possibility

and would explain many of your seemingly disparate

symptoms. And have you checked your basal temps?? In

cases where there is thyroid resistance, which makes

even the proper thyroid testing unreliable, seeing

what your first morning temps are can tell you a lot.

Subject: fibromyalgia?/list of all my symptoms

Hi, all, Sorry I haven't been on the forum lately--I've been dealing with

a lot of stuff. I thought maybe you might have some ideas about what may be

wrong with me. Let me list ALL of my weird symptoms: 1. cyclical

vestibulitis 2. tingling on face (left cheek) 3. periodic vertigo 4. daily

cramp-like pain in lower abdomen--both sides down to the groin 5. chronic

muscular pain in waist, front of thighs, and upper back 6. occasional tension

headaches 7. constipation 8. painful, debilitating periods and PMS 9.

painful feet--bunions 10. psoriasis on scalp 11. adhesions on intestines

12. low energy, especially in morning 13. occasional difficulty concentrating

or remembering 14. mild urinary frequency 15. low progesterone 16.

occasional swollen lymphnodes (used to be cyclical, but not anymore) ...I

know some of these seem totally unrelated, but I thought I'd just throw it out

there and see if anyone recognizes any one common thread. Endometriosis,

IBS, impaction, IC, thyroid problems, kidney and liver issues, and cancer that

shows up in blood work have all been medically ruled out. I am getting a

colonoscopy this Wed. I am wondering about fibromyalgia? Any thoughts?

Thanks, Becky

Becky,

I wanted to add. . .

about the fibro possibility: Dr. Lowe, a thyroid researcher/clinician is

absolutely convinced that

it is untreated hypothyroidism and treats it quite

successfully with T3 alone.

Hollis,

I want to thank you for the info that you gave a while back

about all the tests because now I tell everyone I can about them

if they think they may have a thyroid issue. In fact, my Pain

Management doctor helped me out recently by running the TSH (as

usual) along with Free T3 and Free T4. My Free T3 level came

back low. We are thinking that this may mean that something is

going on with my pituitary gland so will talk to my gyn about

that whenever I see her next or talk to her next about other

issues.

Thanks again for all the info. Also, would you remind me what

the second antibody test is? I know that one of them is TPO.

Kristy :)

Chelle,

Not everyone with fibromyalgia has the 11 of 18 points. Some

can have more or less than that 11 of 18 tender points.

<<Yes, i agree that gluten sensitivity and food allergies are prime contenders as well.>> I forgot to include that I just finished a 2 week diet that excluded all possible triggers (except gluten!), like dairy, nuts, raw fruits and veg, tomato sauces, caffine, chocolate, carbonation, etc. There was no change in my abdominal pain. I figured I would ask the doc about Celiac next, and then look into FM... Thanks for your ideas! Becky

Unfortunately, Becky, the doctors know little about

gluten and the problems it causes. If they did we

wouldn't be in such dire straits--so many of us. And

the tests they give are certainly usually no

indication of the true sensitivity one might have as

most are negative.

Kristy,

Sorry -- i discovered this overlooked post as i was

going through my old messages.

The low T3, whether it's due to primary or secondary

hypothyrodism, requires attention -- especially if

it's so low as to be flagged by a lab. Have you

done anything about it yet?

The other antibody test is the anti-thyroglobulin.

Hollis,

Right now I have to put the issue of this Free T3 test on the

back burner because I have some other issues to tend to, and one

of them in relation to my sinuses is the fact that I have a

deviated septum which I feel is related to my sinus issues. The

reason I say this is because I've been having issues with my

sinuses since I was 14.

My fibro was caused by physical (due to injury which causes me

to now deal with osteoarthritis) and emotional (the care of and

eventual death of my maternal grandmother in 2000) but I do

think that if I have a thyroid issue that might be what's making

my fibro so unpredictable this past year. We shall see when I

am ready to tend to this.

As soon as I tend to my other more important issues then I will

find out for sure if I have a thyroid problem although I'm

considering asking my Pain Management doctor to let me try

Armour anyway.

But one thing she does feel is that the problem with the Free T3

levels may have more to do with my pituitary gland which if it

does may be connected to the PCOS (a hormone imbalance).

But I will ask her about the antibody tests to see what she says

when I see her today.

Kristy :)
