Thanks... I just got a frantic call from my ob telling me to definately

NOT take advil... to take the tylenol 3 instead...

I don't like the idea of tylenol 3, either, though... what is your

experience with this, Sheila??

Thanks,

Sharon

Hi, I am new to this list, but thought sharing my experience might help reassure

you a little. Pre-WLS when i was pregnant with my second child, I had

debilitating migraines. My OB sent me to neurologist who put me on Tylenol 3. I

took it throughout my pregnancy with no side effects to the baby.. Not saying

every situation is the same, but hope it makes you feel a little better

Oh, thank you for sharing! That really did make me feel better! My hubby

keeps telling me it is okay to take it, but I know he doesn't want to see

me hurt... and I guess it IS better to take it than to stress with hurt...

that will probably stress the baby more, huh?

Again, thanks for sharing... you have made me feel a LOT better!

Hugs

Jane

I'm told not to take Advil for different reasons. Kidneys. No NSAID's.

Jane,

I've never been told not to take Advil (ibuprofen). And I do take it whenever a situation arises that I have to, say for a headache I can't get rid of.

I wonder what the reason was that your doctor said no advil.

Lou, I am glad your surgery is over! And you are doing well! Did they use anesthesia and did it only last 15 minutes?

Hope everyone has a great holidayweek!

I think the combination of conditions and other meds combined with

quantity and frequency of Advil changes the recommendations drastically.

There are many contraindications. I would say the one thing it does

remind us all is be sure every time you see any doctor and they ask for

all your meds and vitamins and supplements you take, be sure to include

everything. If you take something as needed and average once a week or

once a month, just say that. Each specialist you see may have unique

information that is relevant.

There is nothing universally safe or universally bad. I've even been

told I could take a couple of tylenol or advil for a headache, up to

four in a day, but not repeated. And my pulmonologist never gave an

advil warning. For me its the nephrologist. Also, makes me aware that

had I been taking it (which I wasn't) once every week or two, I might

well have not listed it.

There was just a long term study of ordinary multiple vitamins and basic

vitamins such as the B Vitamins and Vitamin C and Vitamin E completed.

The results showed no benefits and some negatives. However, much of the

medical profession objected and said we don't care, we know that the

body needs these vitamins, even though it would be better to get them

through diet. But, it does show that things we have assumed for years

may or may not be valid assumptions and if the medical profession can't

agree, then how are we to know. It's sort of like foods. I don't know

that there is a single food out there that hasn't been called bad for us

at one time or another by someone. So, we read it all and never eat

again, which would probably be a greater mistake. We just gather

information, inform and talk to our doctors, and make best judgements.

Like you, I'll be interested to know what reason Jane was given, if

given one.

What's wrong with taking Advil, if you don't mind my asking. BSher Bauman wrote: Jane...thanks for the card. I hope you saw the one I sent to the group. MamaSher, age 70. IPF 3-06,
