Your rt3/ft3 ratio is very low, it looks like to me. 7.64. Are you not taking t3? I was on Naturethroid when I crashed, and my doc took me off of it. Now I'm on nothing....waiting for new labs and my cytomel to come in. Ugh. My ratio is 10.78, and I feel like crap!

thanks... i needed someone to tell me i'm not crazy!! so it could be the low ferritin causing the synthroid to go haywire and once it is fixed i should be better??? i had my first iv today and i think it helped but not sureTo: RT3_T3 Sent: Wed, June 2, 2010 10:16:14 AMSubject: Re: bump t o anyone! Hyper symptoms/normal labs??

YES, a low ferritin will not allow (any kind) of thyroid med to function properly. And 12 is WAY too low, the usual recommendation here is 70-90.

I have had very good results with iron IVs, as have others on this group.

Hope this helps.

The low ferritin will cause hyper/hypo symptoms. You can't use any thyroid hormones without ferritin, it just pools in your blood. I have seen many people do the IV iron and have good results from it. The low ferritin can actually cause RT3 as well since your body wants to bind up all the T3 it can't use.

Kitty, If I'm taking ferritin, can I take t3, too? I don't think I can stand waiting any longer. I'm so tired! How much ferritin should I take?

I have been trying to tell several doctors this, but none of them believe me. Finally i found a hematologist to give me the ferritin. My first was today. How many do people need? I am scheduled for five. Then what? When should I restart my meds and what should I start?? I've always been on synthroid and showed hyper symptoms with cytomel in the past. To: RT3_T3 Sent: Wed, June 2, 2010 12:40:29 PMSubject: Re: Re: bump t o anyone! Hyper symptoms/normal labs??

I have never had IV iron so I'm not sure how many people usually get. I know you are supposed to test the blood 5 days following I guess the last IV? What have you discontinued? Synthroid is awful :( Have you had your cortisol checked? I couldn't tolerate any significant thyroid meds and I don't have a thyroid! I can now take 100mcg of cynomel split 4x a day. I also take 32.5mg of HC, 1 1/4 tab florinef.

I take 100mcg of T3 even though last check my ferritin was 20. I don't have a thyroid so can't go around taking nothing :o The girls on the adrenal forum recommend the blue bonnett chelated iron and you need 150-200mg elemental iron, so up to 8 capsules a day <they are 27mg e iron each> it is important to take them on an empty stomach 1 hour after thyroid medicine or 4 hours before. http://faqhelp.webs.com/ironandferritin.htm

Thanks, Kitty for that info. I have saved it for later reference. I appreciate your input very much. I just talked to a man in NJ who recently had thyroid removed, and he's having a real hard time of it. They just stuck him on 125 mcg Cytomel once a day, and let him go. I told him he needs to check his ferritin levels, b12, etc. I hope he will do so. I feel so badly for all of us who have to suffer this mess. Any other info. you see fit to share, appreciated!

I can only imagine it is due to the blood loss. I would make sure they check your pituitary. Major blood loss can kill it. I think it is called Empty Sella? Hopefully someone can chime in on that one.
