In a recent press

release, Biogen Idec reported that their oral

MS disease-modifier, BG-12, significantly

reduced the number of people with MS who had

relapses during a two-year study of more than

1,200 people with MS. At the annual meeting of

the American Academy of Neurology in April,

Teva Pharmaceuticals reported that their oral

MS therapy, laquinimod, reduced the relapse

rate in those taking the drug in a study of

1,106 people with MS. Both companies are

awaiting the results of other phase III trials

involving these therapies before submitting

applications to the FDA.
