Guest guest
Jeez I am hiring oyu as my typist! LOL You do rant well when you rant. I agree it is a dauning and frustrating world out there when you try to sort out reality from imagination on what is healthyenough to be able to eat when you have Diabetes. I admit I do indulge in some Splenda myself.. can;t stomach the taste of Stevia, and it is the best of bad options I have found. I use the Da Vinci flavored syrips in my coffee. Pass me the fluoride, I am having a good day! ! Guest guest
One thing I can tell you, Val, is there is a HUGE difference in taste between Stevia brands and how much you use. The first one I had tasted bitter to me, the second had an after taste, and I finally found one that I like. I have to make sure not to use too much because it is stronger than sugar and even this brand used to be kind of bitter but is better tasting now. Just in case you want to venture into Stevia again, lol. Guest guest
> can;t stomach the taste of Stevia, and [splenda] is the best of bad > options I have found. > I read that of all the artificial sweeteners out there, *saccharine* might actually be the best - it apparently is closer to natural things. Although it has an aftertaste almost as bad as Stevia if I remember. People on Dr. B.'s diabtes forums have reported that mixing sweeteners - stevia and splenda, or other combination, can cancel the aftertaste. Splenda might do this as it's so much sweeter than sugar, and might 'last longer' - long enough to cover the aftertaste, or maybe do something to the 'bitter' taste receptors that respond to it. Mixing stevia and erythrtol might work as well. The think I really hate is that even if I wanted to go to stevia completely (I use the Ultimate Stevia pure form - it lasts absolutely forever), I forgo all the various flavors that Da Vinci has (although the flavoring chemicals might not be so good for you either!) It *really* annoys me that they have Splenda-sweetened Coke in *cans*, but not in bottles.. So if want a splenda soft drink, my only option I know of is Diet Rite or " Zero " - unless I want to get cans, which are more expensive (and are in aluminum..) I think at one point they did have their Coke Zero with Splenda, but apparently stopped that. What, do people who are concerned about sweeterners not drink coke in bulk form bottles (would seem the opposite owuld be true). Jim
Guest guest
Our whole family likes Xylitol - tastes like sugar, few if any calories, is actually good for teeth. You wouldn't want to use large amounts as it would cause loose bowels in some, but you might want to look it up if you can't find it in stores.
