Guest guest
Did you all read in the new MSQR this on page 11? I am only typing part of the little article so I hope you will all go read it for yourself.Cancer and MS in the Era of DMTsPrior to the era of disease-modifying therapies (DMT), multiple sclerosis (MS) was linked to reduced rates of cancer......... (they did further research into the the different DMTs and the effect on MS)...... There was no increased risk of cancer among patients treated exclusively with IM (immunomodulator). IS (immunosuppressors) treatment and the duration of exposure significantly increased the risk of cancer, especially skin cancer, as observed in other autoimmune diseases....... Guest guest
An IS would be like a Corticosteroid (prednisone, solu-medrol). An IM would be the ms drugs like Copaxone, Rebif, Avonex etc. I haven't read the article yet but sounds interesting. Thanks for bringing attention to it Sharon. An IS would be like a Corticosteroid (prednisone, solu-medrol). An IM would be the ms drugs like Copaxone, Rebif, Avonex etc. I haven't read the article yet but sounds interesting. Guest guest
IM - immunomodulator - regulates the T cells production maybe I think IS - Immunosuppressant - suppresses the action of those same T cells maybe I think.. pretty much they way the drug messes with our immune system.. I'm pretty sure the interferons are IMs and Copaxone is an IS (I did look up Copaxone to find out which it was.... father had a melanoma in '76... then nothing until just recently.. and I stay out of the sun as much as possible.. at least any length of time to prevent sunburn).. Have a call in to my neurology nurse to see what doc thinks about this information about the Copaxone and increased risk of skin cancers.. But it's not like I don't keep an eye on every little spot, blotch & bump anyway... just may make a difference in whether I keep an eye out, or I start making an appointment with dad's surgeon, at least once a year, for him to go over all these "freckles" -- from a sunburn years ago -- on my back.. HUGS |)onna what are the IM's vs the IS's?
