Guest guest
Hi Dana, I'm so sorry you've had it so rough. This is a hard disease to handle mentally, but it sounds like you're on the right track now by seeking help and information from the group. I'm 54 and live in the LA, CA area. I work full-time as a paralegal in a large corporation. I'm single, but spend as much time as possible with friends and family. My immediate family members live in the LA area. My mother requires a lot of my attention as she has a ton of medical problems, including RA, congestive heart failure, osteoporesis, and probably alzheimer's, but at least demential. All of my siblings and I work to keep her in her house, which is where she wants to be - although she does have a part-time caregiver. However, this does add a fair amount of stress to my life. I've been on anti-depressants, but not any more. The anti-depressant was a stimulent that made it harder to sleep - so I took a sleeping pill - which gave me such severe fatigue that I was on disability. The hepatologist finally figured out what was wrong and told me to stop those drugs. Now with the autoimmune hepatitis the hepatologist monitors EVERYTHING I take including over the counter meds. One suggestion I have is to start scheduling some fun events into your life. I also try to compartmentalize my life a bit so that I'm not constantly thinking about my liver problems. You may also want to see if there's a Liver Support group in your area - contact the American Liver Foundation for that. It helps to get more information, and especially to see people who are doing relatively well. The group that I go to has 3 people with liver transplants who are doing really well. That is helpful to know, because otherwise I tend to think of liver transplantation as the end of the road and a big bad scary thing, when in fact it's not. So far I'm doing way too well to need a transplant. If that happens it's hopefully many years from now. I wish you the very best. -Marie Reply-To: To: Subject: RE: First post with groupDate: Mon, 15 Jan 2007 14:45:24 -0800 (PST) Thank you for your support.
