Guest guest
Kate, If it embarasses the kids have them help. I am sure some are old enough to make some simple meals. Even young kids can make hot dogs and open a can of beans or eat chips. There is no reason for them not helping. Just my opinion. Prayers you feel better soon. Guest guest
I'm a " mean " mom. If they don't learn to " do " before they leave home, when WILL they learn it? My son thanked me after USMC boot camp, because he knew how to " field day " , do his laundry, cook, sew, even do rough-and-tumble first aid, while most of his platoon wouldn't have recognized a scrub brush if it bit 'em on the behind.... (Good thing he learned all this stuff, too, because his first wife was raised to be as useless as, excuse the southernism, " t*ts on a boar-hog " ...) Of course on the other hand, The Daughter swears I kept them in indentured servitude and beat them with chains. :-P :-P :-P T in WY Practical Blackwork Designs http://practicalblackwork.com http://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com  " You get a wonderful view from the point of no return... Guest guest
I'm with you . My kids when they were young all had to make their own beds, on weekends they each had a job to do in the house and each week it was different. The boys mowed lawns and did handyman work for a neighbor and one of them washed dishes along with his sister, at the local VFW on Sat. Our daughter baby sat and washed the dishes at the VFW. Those jobs they picked out on their own. Plus the boys were in the Boy Scouts, at ages 16 and 17 joined the local volunteer ambulance and fire dept. Before they turned 18 each of them made the rank of Eagle Scout which is the highest a Boy Scout can get. All 3 were Students of the Year in high school at their vocational school they attend for 1/2 day as part of their regular schooling. One son in electronics, one son for auto mechanics, and our daughter was for office work. Can't remember the exact wording for hers. Our 7 almost 8 yr old granddaughter surprises Daddy and cleans the house a lot of Fridays and surprises him when he gets home from shopping. Granted she may not do the job of an adult but she does pretty dang good. The only thing he has ever required of her was to keep her room clean. When they visit here, she goes under the kitchen cabinet and looks for the duster and comes out and dusts! Not that its dusty cause I clean ever week but she loves to do it :-) My mother was an alcoholic and I did a lot of the house work. By age 9 In was ironing my fathers shirts. When you are 9 yrs old ironing a size 17 1/2 shirt seemed like ironing a king size bed sheet! LOL I would also do some of the cleaning. To me there is NO excuse for kids not to help out at home. Guest guest
Been there done that with the ironing - when I was 9, my " allowance " chore was ironing my dad's Army fatigues - the old cotton ones. They had to be starched and stiff enough to almost " stand up " on their own... I got a dime a set, and a nickel per every 2 handkerchiefs. That was also the age I learned to cook and help clean, since my mother also worked. When I was 12 I was judged old enough to watch my baby sister from after school to " folks home " , plus have dinner on the table... In the genealogy research I've been doing, I note lots of my grannies and grampies listed as " house servant " . " laundry maid " , or " farm worker at the ripe old ages of 6 or 7. And these days kids call Dept of Children's Services if they don't get TV in their rooms! in WY Practical Blackwork Designs http://practicalblackwork.com http://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com  " You get a wonderful view from the point of no return... Guest guest
You were lucky, you got an allowance I didn't get one. I have to check into what my ancestors did.Had to be some sort of housekeeping. When we moved out here when the kids were in 6th,7th and 8th grade, I cleaned houses for extra money. That way I was always able to get to the kids if they needed anything plus I could pick my hours. I hurt my back after a few yrs and had to give them all up. I did keep the old country dr though. I cleaned for him for 16yrs. I also took in some laundry for extra money. hugs nne To the world you might be one person, but to one person you just might be the world " " May the Lord Bless you and keep you, May the Lord Make his face shine upon you, and give you Peace...Forever " Breast Cancer Patients Soul Mates for Life http://breastcancerpatientssoulmatesforlife.bravehost.com/ Anxiety Depression and Breast Cancer http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/AnxietyDepressionandBreastCancer Angel Feather Loomer www.angelfeatherloomer.blogspot.com The Cancer Club www.cancerclub.com > pain dr. >> >> Hi all, >> Still with the TN pain. Guest guest
so sorry for you Kate! I don't have the TN but would certainly share the word with the teacher so that you don't have to be "strong" all the time in the presence of other people who have no clue! Why would increasing baclofen help with pain...isn't it an anti-inflamatory? Isn't there something that can block the pain signal? I've had just a small bout of TN we believe that hurt the ears with no apparent reason and a few light pains but imagine your off the charts with serious TN, there has to be something. How long does it usually last for you? DeeTo: MSersLife Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 12:12:42 PMSubject: pain dr. Hi all, Still with the TN pain. Guest guest
Kate kate kate...may I share my recent "assignment" from my counseling about being a gracious receiver. Needing help, accepting help, asking for help...fills me with guilt, shame, and embarrassment. However...I love to be the giver and the do-er, fills me with joy. I've come to the realization that with practice of course, a joyful recipient makes for a blessed and joyful experience for the giver. Stay focused on acknowledging their efforts or whatever and keep your negative emotions to yourself so as not to rob them of such a great experience. As I said, it will take practice but it is a much better experience for everyone~ hugs!DeeTo: MSersLife Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 1:42:48 PMSubject: Re: pain dr. 100 mgs? Holy crud! Guest guest
yes, how old are the other members of the house? it could be an adventure for them to take turns making the menu and then cooking...lots of praise if you can inspire them to give it a go~ I've been trying to let loose of the 'controls' for meals at least once a week to my husband, usually a weekend day, so he can cook something. It is very pleasurable for him to do so, I really need to make a habit of passing the apron to him on a regular basis as it is good for his esteem as well as my rest from same ol' routine. good luck with that!DeeTo: MSersLife Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 2:35:09 PMSubject: Re: pain dr. Guest guest
that's funny ~ it is amazing how unable these girls are these days. Every girl my son has dated (4 I think) so far merely know how to make microwave mac and cheese or bake premade cookie dough. When he and one of them gathered stuff to make cookies with a boxed batch and she was amazed having never made them from scratch! Another saw him make boxed mac and cheese and considered that "from scratch". I make mine watch and help to make some of their favorite foods and the 'old fashioned' way so they can enjoy the food they eat. The gf for the last 2.5 years makes spaghetti using campbells tomato soup to make the sauce. omg. He agonizes about eating over at their home for holiday's because the food is so pre-prepared and like a bunch of fraternity bachelors made it. I'm just amazed with the tales he brings back. So sad. I know people are busy but gosh, you'd think we should equip them for the world. lol, I remember having my daughter unclog her shower drain as nobody shares that bathroom with her. She cleans it (finally sufficiently) but all that hair, ugh. So when it needed it I explained and let her go at it. Well, an hour later and lots of upset she got the plug part off so she could go at it with a hanger. She about threw up lol. I of course was chuckling along out in the front room refusing to rescue her. At some point, often earlier than not with me, a mama must pass the torch so when the toilet overflows or the tub plugs up, or the garbage disposal won't grind...they have to know how to deal with it before they are on their own. so fun. My gf down the street with two little ones, 2 yrs and 8 mo, we lamented over when the kids get the flu she doesn't know how she will handle the throwing up part...I moaned and laughed as she said she just doesn't do well with that. That is a joyous day when you can merely explain how things go and they can handle that one on their own without you having to escort them. ugh. Anybody watch that show Bones? the season finale made me cry a bit when had her baby because of memories of course but more because I know I am past being able to ever go there again. nice but sad at the same time. Parenting was so hard but so worth it...I'm not a person drawn to kids but am so glad I went through the process of it. Mine are on the cusp of jumping out of the nest. Wonder if we will be the parents Erma Bombeck describes as the kind that the very next day move out of state without leaving a forwarding address! lol. her books are so timely for me. One segment she wrote about the parents going to the kids to inform them they wanted to get their own apartment and the banter of questions and answers went on backwards with the kids muttering after they pulled away that "they'll be back" as though they won't make it out there in the world. funny. wow, not sure how I got all the way there from making fun of today's young ladies in a general sense about their lack of skills in the kitchen :)hugsDee To: MSersLife Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 4:24:08 PMSubject: RE: pain dr. I'm a "mean" mom. If they don't learn to "do" before they leave home, when WILL they learn it? My son thanked me after USMC boot camp, because he knew how to "field day", do his laundry, cook, sew, even do rough-and-tumble first aid, while most of his platoon wouldn't have recognized a scrub brush if it bit 'em on the behind.... (Good thing he learned all this stuff, too, because his first wife was raised to be as useless as, excuse the southernism, "t*ts on a boar-hog"...) Of course on the other hand, The Daughter swears I kept them in indentured servitude and beat them with chains. :-P :-P :-P T in WY Practical Blackwork Designs http://practicalblackwork.com http://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com "You get a wonderful view from the point of no return..." pain dr. Guest guest
amazing nne! she's a keeper~DeeTo: mserslife Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 7:12:56 PMSubject: RE: pain dr. Guest guest
wow! that is a lot for someone so young~ what generation do you fall into? My mom would have me clean the front room as a tween and older, which I would always want to "move it around" to make it more something...she didn't care thankfully but for some reason cleaning meant rearranging in my mind. We didn't have serious chores like yours though~ impressive. In fact, some of that may have been due to my mom's distaste for ironing, something Erma Bombeck doesn't do either come to think of it lol. that and sewing. Her mending box consisted of scotch tape, marker, and stapler or something outrageous like that. To: MSersLife Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 7:45:22 PMSubject: RE: pain dr. Been there done that with the ironing - when I was 9, my "allowance" chore was ironing my dad's Army fatigues - the old cotton ones. They had to be starched and stiff enough to almost "stand up" on their own... I got a dime a set, and a nickel per every 2 handkerchiefs. That was also the age I learned to cook and help clean, since my mother also worked. When I was 12 I was judged old enough to watch my baby sister from after school to "folks home", plus have dinner on the table... In the genealogy research I've been doing, I note lots of my grannies and grampies listed as "house servant". "laundry maid", or "farm worker at the ripe old ages of 6 or 7. And these days kids call Dept of Children's Services if they don't get TV in their rooms! in WY Practical Blackwork Designs http://practicalblackwork.com http://practical-blackwork.blogspot.com "You get a wonderful view from the point of no return..." pain dr. > > Hi all, > Still with the TN pain.
