Guest guest
That is beautiful, profound advice, dear Dee. I have thought on that in the past, but had forgotten those musings. Accept in the spirit that it is being given. I guess I wonder if I fall short of showing my deep gratitude. Thank you, Dee. hugs, Kate To: MSersLife Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 9:36:38 PMSubject: Re: pain dr. Kate kate kate...may I share my recent "assignment" from my counseling about being a gracious receiver. Needing help, accepting help, asking for help...fills me with guilt, shame, and embarrassment. However...I love to be the giver and the do-er, fills me with joy. I've come to the realization that with practice of course, a joyful recipient makes for a blessed and joyful experience for the giver. Stay focused on acknowledging their efforts or whatever and keep your negative emotions to yourself so as not to rob them of such a great experience. As I said, it will take practice but it is a much better experience for everyone~ hugs!Dee To: MSersLife Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 1:42:48 PMSubject: Re: pain dr. 100 mgs? Holy crud! He told me 80 is the max. No wonder you were out of it! I'm already getting spacey being on 15mgs. My church is going to be making meals for me come the weekend. What a blessing my church is...I feel a tad embarrassed, as well as very humble. love you Sharon, and all, Kate To: MSersLife Sent: Wed, May 25, 2011 1:46:52 PMSubject: Re: pain dr. My neuro simply is raising my baclofen, but I can already (at 15 mgs) start to feel sleepy. I'm thinking an appt with one might prove to be helpful, but wanted to know what ya'll thought. I'm still doing the computer training, but find it exceedingly difficult to focus with the pain, and with the meds making me sleepy. Planning on giving to the instructor the word, 'trigeminal neuralgia' so she can look it up and see what I'm suffering with. Guest guest
Kate, those are difficult ages to do much withholding or consequences with, with the exception of the 11 year old. My daughters counselor through high school often talked about it being a pointless exercise. I never did get the hang of it either as the notion of my alternatives seemed to escape me. She's 23 now and very much does what she needs to in order to appease my criticisms or complaints, of which I do need to pick and choose those battles at this point as it's certainly not going to 'teach them' anything. I wish you luck with that. I've have found that if I address my kids with calm and not in the moment as well as let them courteously address issues that are on their nerves or their perspectives (for the older ones in particular) I've gained some insight and we've been able to come to some compatibility on the issues even if it ends with "my house, my rules". Just being acknowledged helps them to cooperate some. My son doesn't speak up what he's feeling so this is a new concept in our relationship...and his perspective is often good points. Guest guest
Kate, That's what churches do.. they help in time of need.. and right now.. I'd say you could use a bit of help.. (and what the church is doing for you, isn't anything that you wouldn't be doing for someone else, if you could).. If the family wants to be pissed.. tell them to scratch their butts & get glad again.. or pitch in at mealtime & get the job done themselves.. I don't think that even your youngest couldn't nuke a hot dog or two.. possibly cook up a box of mac-n-cheese open a jar of applesauce (or maybe a can of water packed tuna instead of the hot dogs).. and you've got a fairly decent dinner.. that even the kids can whip up... Even a bowl of oatmeal can be nuked.. and not the rip open the package & add water then nuke kind.. can be done up quite nicely in a microwave.. does it all the time for breakfasts around here.. the oatmeal & a slice or two of toast takes care of breakfast some weekend mornings.. With all the handy dandy kitchen gadgets these days.. there's really no reason that a young'un can't whip a little something up without having to touch the stove or oven.. I didn't mean to make you feel worse than you already do.. those were really meant as suggestions.. But you already do soooooooo much for the kids.. wouldn't it be nice to have them jump in and help out around there too.. even if you have to be the one to suggest it? Guest guest
, Are you my long lost sister or something??? LOL.. did the same with the boys.. and then stood there and felt sooooo awful Earl's first day of Day Care/Kindergarten when he wasn't hanging onto my leg screaming and crying that his mommy was leaving him! My son thanked me after USMC boot camp, because he knew how to "field day", do his laundry, cook, sew, even do rough-and-tumble first aid, while most of his platoon wouldn't have recognized a scrub brush if it bit 'em on the behind.... (Good thing he learned all this stuff, too, because his first wife was raised to be as useless as, excuse the southernism, "t*ts on a boar-hog"...) Guest guest
yes, furniture moving does seem to lessen over the years regardless of the reason, so many other things to be doing~ level of difficulty increases too so imagine that impacts it. I've never been to Pennsylvania, but have a friend who grew up in the Hershey's Boys Home way back when after parents immigrated, father died, and mom couldn't care for them. thankfully they did and his mom maintained a relationship with them. From: |)onna To: MSersLife Sent: Fri, May 27, 2011 10:50:16 AMSubject: Re: pain dr. Guest guest
Yeah.. makes you wish they came with instruction manuals.. don't it? HUGS |)onna Kate, those are difficult ages to do much withholding or consequences with, with the exception of the 11 year old. Tell 'em if they're "embarrassed" to have church-family cooking for you, get off their heinies and do it themselves... Feel better soonest! T Maybe just a little cranky this morning (earache. Hi all, Still with the TN pain. I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with pain doctors. Maybe she'll understand...especially when I make those grimacing faces at her! lol. love you all, with gentle hugs, Kate
Guest guest
Oh, I've been playing "mommy" since I was like 9 or 10 years old.. once my younger brother was able to walk (I did have retired neighbors on either side, who I think actually kept an eye on both of us... and my dad worked just down the block and in the front of the building if there were an emergency and he came home for lunch every day too).. I was the babysitter.. during the summer & evenings during the school year when parents needed one. I DO remember being "grounded" because my best friend's father caught us in her basement with my little brother in the laundry tub, hosing him down.. and we were contemplating tossing him in the dryer too.. In my defense though, he shouldn't have had the temper tantrum and sat down in that mud puddle (coal ash puddle actually).. in his spanking white diaper!! and he wouldn't have had to be hosed down!!.. Spent the rest of the entire summer, alone, at home, with only him!!..no best friend to hang out with.. I guess nobody wanted we two girls putting our heads together like that again.. LOL HUGS |)onna I was in the AF at the time of my son's first day of school, so he went from the babysitter's - now THERE'S a guilt trip for Mommy! But I was raised that kids should help and be useful around the place, not sit on their cans sucking up groceries and watching TV, so that's how I raised mine...
