OMG Reb, the bus went down a flight of stairs! I sure hope they find out why the bus went out of control ASAP in case it's a mechanical thingie that might be on more buses. It shouldn't have happened at all!

I don't understand if they cordon off the area when a Marathon is being run? And I know what you mean automatically thinking of Pixie. I'm the same way with my granddaughter Sonya .... hugs, Cait

Could have been worse!

In the first reports about this yesterday, when this was still "breaking news" they said that all but one of the injured had serious injuries, now it seems only one is seriously injured. That's one too many, of course, but it could have been so many more, and it could have been deaths too.

The photo of the stroller caught under the bus, that illustrated the "breaking news feature" was a really heart-breaking sight too (especially since it looked like it could be Pixie's stroller – this happened within walking distance from where they live – and I could not get hold of her and a), luckily now they say the child in the stroller got away with only minor injuries (and, no, it wasn't Pixie).

Still a mystery what happened, though. There are speculations about the brakes of the bus, apparently this particular bus had a history of brake failure, and had had the brakes repaired only weeks ago. I guess the investigation will tell.

it is not surprizing that you flashed to Pixie - the morning the Murrah Building was bombed my son the firefighter had been down that weekend - he was due to work north of OKC that day - I didn't know until 9 pm that night when I called my MIL that the job had been cancelled.

from the first pictures of the fireman carrying little Baylee Almond out in his arms not knowing she was already dead - that picture went around the world so fast.

I kept seeing my son in full bunker carrying TJ he was just past 5 and small for his age - it was more than 5 years befor I didn't flash back to that - still do sometimes when babies are involved - Murrah Building being bombed and sitting for my Masters boards two months later - some year God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

The driver has told the police that the brakes just wouldn't take, so that's probably it. Especially since that bus had been serviced for issues with the brakes quite recently (although, in the best of worlds etc..., if the brakes had been serviced recently it *should* mean that the brakes worked like a clock...). You're right it shouldn't have happened at all, let's hope that finding out what went wrong with this bus will at least prevent that the same thing happens with other buses. They do cordon off the area where the Marathon is being run, but surrounding areas will usually be quite full with spectators, and this would have been part of the spectator area. Not that I'll ever understand why you'd go out to watch a Marathon. Football or hockey, or even tennis or anything with a ball, or ball like object involved, that I do understand (and even enjoy, both doing and watching), but looking at people running? But, hey, that's just me, I was, after all, the one to tell my gym teacher in junior high that only an idiot would run from a certain point and then round in a circle to end up at that very same point (my way of saying he could forget seeing me running the tracks)...love/Reb>> OMG Reb, the bus went down a flight of stairs! I suppose that's natural. It was just very eerie to not be able to get a hold of them on the phone etc. love/Reb>> it is not surprizing that you flashed to Pixie - the morning the Murrah Building > was bombed my son the firefighter had been down that weekend - he was due to > work north of OKC that day - I didn't know until 9 pm that night when I called > my MIL that the job had been cancelled.> > from the first pictures of the fireman carrying little Baylee Almond out in his > arms not knowing she was already dead - that picture went around the world so > fast.> > I kept seeing my son in full bunker carrying TJ he was just past 5 and small for > his age - it was more than 5 years befor I didn't flash back to that - still do > sometimes when babies are involved - Murrah Building being bombed and sitting > for my Masters boards two months later - some year>  God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, > the faith and courage to fly to new heights, > and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there. > > > > > ________________________________> To: MSersLife > Sent: Sun, May 29, 2011 1:17:08 AM> Subject: Re: Could have been worse!> >  > OMG Reb, the bus went down a flight of stairs! I sure hope they find out why > the bus went out of control ASAP in case it's a mechanical thingie that might be > on more buses. It shouldn't have happened at all!>  > I don't understand if they cordon off the area when a Marathon is being run? > And I know what you mean automatically thinking of Pixie. I'm the same way with > my granddaughter Sonya .... hugs, Cait>  > Could have been worse!> >> > > >http://www.thejournal.ie/six-people-including-baby-injured-in-stockholm-marathon-bus-accident-145035-May2011/> >> >> >> >(you may have to copy and paste the link)> >> >> >In the first reports about this yesterday, when this was still "breaking news" > >they said that all but one of the injured had serious injuries, now it seems > >only one is seriously injured. I am glad she wasn't the child in there too! And of course grateful that the child in there only suffered minor injuries (bodily at least, hate to think about what that horrifying experience might do to the mind of a toddler).love/Reb

I too dislike sports and PE in school - when we came back to Fort Bragg from Germany the PE uniform made you want to kill yourself - the PE teachers idea was if you said you were sick to give you a slug of pepto bismol - I guess I developed a taste for it - never could run and hated team things

the only thing that got us out of it was women's problems once a month - and I was enough of a brat to show her what the problem was God, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.
