OK you defintiely have an RT3 problem. Your iron labs are not completely

making sense and you might want to consult a hemotologist for

interpretaiton as your Ferritn is alot lower than it should be compared

to your serum iron and % saturation which are great, even a tad high. I

am nto sure what could cause these differing results.

Your B12 is low, Vitamin D is too lwo and your folate could come up as

well. These maybe impacting your ferritin levels as I do nto know the

correlation of them.

I would suggest a full saliva cortils test as you do have some markers

for low adrena function and to be certan as oyu need T3 treatment to

overcome this thyroid resistance.

Don't know if you were tested using the *sensitive* E2 testing in USA--otherwise

I'm scheduled to see the doctor who runs the " allthingsmale " clinic and is a moderator on the yahoo group EL suggested.  I can tell you that from the references I read he is great and knows all about adrenal fatigue and thyroid problems.  Plus, his is one of the leading clinicians when it comes to testosterone and growth hormone replacement therapy.  He is one of the rare docs who knows how to put it all together for you.  If you live within the States, I would suggest looking into either flying in to see him or doing a consult with your current doctor and him.  If you live outside the US, you can legally do a phone consult with him without having to see him in person first.

You'd asked about posting files, here's the link:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/sfupld?path=/

I also had " low free testosterone not reacting to supplementation " , obviously

the " ideal ranges " would be very different for me as a female, but too-low

testosterone causes loss of muscle in both genders (with corresponding weakness

and lowered metabolism). Val had good results with the topical cream, I did

not, but I finally did have some success raising my testo with sublingual

troches from a compounding pharmacy. (Thanks to Val for her suggestion of that.)

Wayne,

You sound smarter than your doctor. It is amazing how a lot of us have learned

to become better monitors, guardians and advocates for own health than we ever

thought we'd have to be.

You've already gotten good advice from Val and others, but I just thought I'd

offer that I had to kiss goodbye the allopathic, integrated doctor I was

traveling an hour and a half to see when she referred me to a surgeon who was

more exceedingly eager to remove my thyroid nodule (and thyroid). Neither RT3

nor iodine was ever mentioned in my conversations with the allopath or the

surgeon.

I have a doc now who listens and reads and treats ever consultation like a

conversation and an opportunity for us both to learn. Maybe it helps that he

dealt with adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism much of his life. Whatever the

case, it's evident that he's open, compassionate and genuinely interested in his

patients' well being.

Imagine that. :-)

Good luck to you,

Hi Val

Thank you for taking the time to first read my long post and secondly to offer

some advice. I have been consuming a lot of an alkalising powder consisting of

calcium, sodium, pottasium and magnesium bicarbonate salts in my daily water and

I have researched that calcium bicarbonate might be inhibiting the storage of

iron along with the green teas I was also drinking. So I have reduced this input

and only drink green tea 4 hours after my meals or 1 hour before. I am

currently waiting on new test results shortly.

I have also been chelating with Chelorex for the last 90 days and finished

today. This might also be affecting the iron and ferritin results but I also

note that the Chelorex has 200mcg of Selenium which I think helps with T4 to T3

conversion, so maybe I should continue??.

I plan to supplement with a modest amount of iron (20mg) to raise my ferritin

levels to around 70 to 90 then I will address the RT3 problem. What is the best

form of iron for a man to supplement with?

I will supplement B12 Folic acid and more Vit D to lift these to more desirable

levels.

I had planned to have the saliva cortisol test when I can afford it.

Is there any point in my posting my 2 temperature graphs for comment and if so

how do I achieve this?

Does anyone have any success with using natural supplements to assist the

removal of RT3 and the creation of T3 from T4 or will I have to start synthetic

T3 to achieve optimum results?

Once again thank you for you valuable input.

Thank you I will follow up and visit allthingsmale on the web.

I live in Australia so maybe a phone consult might be of some value. I am sort

of hoping to raise my ferritin levels, rectify my RT3 problems with the help of

good people like you and then turn my attention to increasing my low free

testosterone. I have mid level Total Testosterone levels and supplementing with

testosterone cream did not seem to assist either free or total for me. So I will

be looking for an alternative and better answer then.

Good luck with your visit. Hope you get the results you are looking for.

Regards

Wayne

Hi Margery

Thanks for your reply and the link to upload the files. I may try the sublingual

troches when I again turn my attention back to my testosterone levels. I do have

a very knowledgeable compounding chemist within reach so he may be of some

assistance in this. Glad you and Val had success.

Hi

It's amazing what you learn when you have to because the designated people (read

Doctors)don't deliver the goods. I am lucky to have a local GP Doctor who has

accepted my " weird ways " in requesting " unusual tests " that he normally never

requests and much further admits to not fully understanding. So he at least is

open minded enough to facilitate these enquiries. So I do the research show it

to him and if he agrees we get the test done. If the results seem like they need

further interpretation then he sends me off to a Specialist in that particular

field. Have you ever tried to convince a Specialist that they didn' teach him

everytning in the Medical school he attended to enable him to solve all of

mankinds problems in his chosen field. There are an awful lot of us who fall

outside of the bounds of establishment recognised normalacy.

So I would certainly not have gotten this far without my GPs open minded

attitude. For that I am very grateful.

As for my expensive natural Doctor specialising in natural medicine including

hormones and Thyroid I feel I was let down badly when presented with my evidence

he proclaimed " You don't have a thyroid problem " . There it was plain as day RT3

462, above the upper range.

So this is why we learn because we have to if our problems are to be solved. As

I am discovering it is focused groups of people like here on this board with

similar problems all looking for their own answer that is where the real power

of knowledge is to be found.

I am happy that you have found a caring and knowledgeable Doctor. Value him as

you know they are a rare commodity. Hope all your problems are well under

control now.

Warmest regards

Wayne
