When I was with the Child Fatality Review Teams, we used the QPR(Question,

Persuade, Refer) curriculum as a post-vention measure.. We use it in our ISD

also...Go to www.qprinstitute.comhttp://www.qprinstitute.com/>.

Subject: Suicide Prevention Programs

I am researching to find a program to set up in eastland county. we are hoping

to set up a suicide prevention hotline with the program also. We are in need of

help in finding programs that we can use as a guideline to help set this up and

to get grants for the hotline. Anyone that has ideas or knowledge please feel

free to contact my at medic4612000@...

Thank you,

Cindy,

While we may not agree on the county EMS system, I would fully agree with you on

something like this. I'm guessing this come due to the events of this week here

in the county.

As a member of the GETAC Injury Prevention Committee, I will bring this up to

the group Friday during our workday meeting. As with anything, funding is going

to be a big issue for a program like this.

Cindy,

I did bring this up to the group today and the two groups that were recommended

were these two.

www.mhatexas.org  (Mental Health Association of Texas) which does have a

hotline.

www.texassuicideprevention.org

The national hotline number is 1-800-SUICIDE (784-2433)

There is a MHATexas member in Abilene according to the list of those that are

associated with this group.  I think that would be a starting point, without

having to reinvent the wheel, so to speak.  It would be better to partner with

an already established group that already has members that you could bring in to

help promote prevention.  This might be a good idea for Texas EMS Week, to

present some type of program to the community.

We, as a group are going to look at the groups that I have listed above, and

will give our input on this topic at the main committee meeting in February.  I

would invite you or anyothers to come to the meeting and give your input during

the public input part of the meeting. (Feb 24th 4-530pm)

Please remember, that we as a group are here to give any help that we can when

it comes to injury prevention.  We have people on the committee with various

backgrounds, so please feel free to ask any questions or attend our meetings.

Texas ranks 9th when it comes to suicide.

Hope this helps.
