Guest guest
Very beautiful!I am guessing your Memorial Day is a bit like our All Hallows Eve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Saints ). The lighting candles on loved ones graves is a big part of that holiday here (we don't have the Halloween traditions, even if some kids do trick or treating as they have seen in the movies, it's more of a memorial holiday, where the memory of those who have gone before is honored). love/Reb>> This is what it looked like just after dusk>
Guest guest
/Reb, I can't remember if I replied to this already or not.. but in case I didn't.. Memorial Day, here in the states, was originally called "Decoration Day" but then renamed by one of the President's -- I knew these answers last week. I do believe it started as a holiday (and didn't become a "government" holiday until the '60s) to honor fallen soldiers.. I'm not sure when or if it's not always been a day to honor everyone in our families that have passed before us.. But yes, it is a holiday similar to your All Hallows Eve, in this concept. And thank you for saying that the monument was beautiful.. I kept thinking that maybe, just maybe, I had gone a tad bit overboard when designing his headstone (but if this one is overboard.. then I was definitely totally off the wall with my original idea!). When someone, not involved with the whole process thinks it's good.. then I'm a little more confident that I didn't get too far off, and it didn't actually turn out gaudy looking, but the people around me won't tell me because they don't want to hurt my feelings.. <grin> HUGS |)onna Very beautiful! Guest guest
Thanks Sharon, As I said to Reb, it's nice to hear that someone else thinks it came out okay too.. Oh, and the lights work beautifully!.. We stayed on until after full darkness had fallen, and you could read his name clearly, from the circular drive in the cemetery... could even see the light from the actual road as well.. Once it was fully dark.. the Mica and Gold & Silver that reflects like a artist's paint brush stroke, during the day.. twinkled like stars in the sky after full dark.. I'm soooo glad came up with the idea of doing that this year.. NOW, all we have to do is get the replacement LED light setup for inside the actual top of the lighthouse (I was relieved to find it only cost $17.50 including shipping).. but I'd still like to find the more bluish/brighter light for inside the top.. even suggested we get in touch with these solar light guys they were working with on another monument and see if they can not only set me up with that brighter/bluer light.. but possibly get some setup where the light would look like it was revolving, just like an actual lighthouse would.. I kind of like that idea as well.. and if it's fails then we can always fall back to the original setup.. I just hope his "new" concept doesn't cost more than an actual real lighthouse!.. <grin> HUGS |)onna Bud's grave looks nice, Donna. The lights work well, don't they? hugs Sharon This email is a natural hand made product.
