Anyone still around? I'm shaking like a leaf and have a house full of CSI powder/tape crap to clean up. This afternoon I was upstairs trying to lie down and get rid of a headache, I heard noises and knocking sounds but rolled over on my other side. That way the ear that doesn't hear was the 'hearing' one. I just assumed the noises were from deck as I have a ladder, etc. there and it was really really windy.

Next thing I saw was the tail end of two men hightailing it from my bedroom door. Obviously they had no idea anyone was home. I totally freaked out.

My visitors broke in thru the kitchen window by cutting the screen of my kitchen window. Obviously checked it first to see the glass section wasn't locked. had opened the thingie for me one day when I wanted to get some fresh air in. I had closed the glass part but can't reach the lock thing. They cleaned out what they wanted from the main floor, not sure if they hit the basement, and came upstairs. At around 3PM in the daytime!!!!

They exited thru the patio door in the diningroom which they friggin broke. Anyway I can't think straight as to what is missing but they got one good print and it's a very big male's left hand. And I wasn't the only one; a couple a few houses up were also broken into except they were at work.

Earlier before it got dark, I had to go outside and around to the deck rather than just walking out the patio door. By that time there were several neighbors and dumb me in my pjs outside. Walking around to the front I managed to fall on the cement and banged up my left leg pretty badly. In front of all my neighbors ... it was so embarrassing!

came over and just left; the first cop wanted me to either have someone stay with me or go stay elsewhere for a few days. had to go home for his meds and tried to get me to come but if I went, it's just another stupid fear I'll let win.

Ever see a cop trying to get prints off a small wallet? It was actually funny except for the fact that they took all my cash for this month.

I'm fed up with Caitsworld ... please can I visit someone elses? And I haven't even gone fishing yet this year. Now to find the #s to notify my credit cards altho surely they wouldn't be dumb enough to try and use them ... hugs, Cait

Wow, honey...breathe...just take deep breaths and slow yourself down. It's over, at least the worst part is. I DO wish you had someone there with you, or a big nasty dog...they'll catch them, you will get your stuff back. Do you have insurance to repair the breakage? Is coming back? Don't be embarrassed about being in your pj's...heck, I sleep in the buff, at least you were decent! I just hope your leg is ok...I am here honey...want my phone number in case you need to call (although 911 would be the first number is it is urgent, I'm just a "wanna talk" back-up)?

Get some herbal tea if you have any...or something stronger, to calm your nerves. That's pretty scary stuff honey...

Thanks Akiba, I never drink but since I don't even have a valium, I'm having a drink of Scotch. Must be older than the hills and yech, but it's settling me down a bit.

Yes to house insurance thank goodness and no to coming back. Would you believe not being in his own house makes him anxious! He really doesn't like his home or the area he's in but he's too scared to leave it! We talked about both selling and buying a house together but I think he'd have a heart attack first. I could have his son's dog anytime but with his long nails and my hardwood floors, it would drive me over the edge. My visitors managed to put a few etchings in the floors as it is :(.

Not all bad news tho, now the closest neighbors know about my ms and I think they all gave me their phone #'s. None of us are listed in the phone book. And my next door neighbor is a really nice divorced teacher in her 30's who's mother also has ms and apparently is pretty bad. It was so sweet when I fell. Her little daughter Kiera put her arms around me, asked me if I hurt and "Mommy, Mommy you got to help us get up".

And another positive thing came out of it; my other side neighbor is going to fix the electrical and offered to fix up the basement. Both he and one of the policemen asked me how much I hoped to get for the house. Both of them said they had friends who would buy my house at that price without my doing any more renos. Made me feel a little more positive. And whether these people would really pay that price remains to be seen. Anyway my shaking is slowing down and I'm a bit hungry. I didn't have any supper.

Thank you so much for being there. Tomorrow I'm going to see about an alarm setup ... hugs, Cait

I am sorry to hear you had such a scary afternoon! I hope everything works out (i.e. that the bad guys are caught, that you get everything back, and in the meantime, that you get some help from your insurance company). I know that the worst part when a home is broken into is seldom the stuff lost, but the feeling of invasion of privacy and a lost feeling of security within your own home – I do hope for healing for that too!Is there any way you could have an alarm installed? That's where my mind would go, I am sure. You know there are alarms that can be on while you are at home, because they'll detect anyone or anything passing through a window or door, rather than detecting motion within the house. Perhaps that's something your insurance company would be willing to help you with. But, anyway, just like Akiba said, the worst part is over, now just concentrate on healing.love/Reb>> Anyone still around? Thanks Reb, I'm looking into the alarm tomorrow as is my neighbor alone with her little daughter.

Maybe it's the Scotch talking *Akiba made me do it <g>* but I know that people often refer to breakins being akin to being raped; that feeling of being violated.

Well I've now experienced both and this isn't anywhere near that painful. At least at this moment now I'm alone, I'm more angry than anything else. And a bit concerned about a few other neighbors who live alone up the street .... hugs, Cait

wow, what area of the country do you live in? that is incredible. I have a neighbor I worry to for her leaving her garage open all the time. She shrugs and says her gf was robbed while she was sleeping and didn't hear a thing, and her house was locked up. Thankfully our neighborhood doesn't have crime issues at this point, although I'm sure it will rise as the population rises, the economy keeps being poopy. glad to hear you're alright~ hugsDeeFrom:

Well, I couldn't make the comparison. which is something to be grateful for I understand. Really sorry to hear that you can! But glad this experience wasn't as painful, at least. My most similar experience to a break in is that of being on the receiving end of a police search of my home (it was purely by mistake, or rather a case of false accusations, it's a long story, but the short version is, in any case, that I was innocent, in my own eyes as well as in the eyes of the law, I didn't have a criminal record back then, and I still don't, and I of course understand why the police had to do what they did, even if it wasn't a very pleasant experience). Since the story the police had been told involved guns, they entered the place in a rather invasive way (didn't exactly wait to be let in). And the search was thorough, perhaps even more so because they didn't find any of the things they were looking for (I think they must have started to suspect they had been led on a red herring chase already somewhere half way through the search – because by then there would have already been too many things not matching up with what they had been told – and I am assuming that they must have been desperately wanting to find at least something to justify their action, decentpolice officers wouldn't have wanted to do a thing like that wrongfully, I am sure). I am thinking it was much like the experience of a burglary, done by some gun waving and very thorough burglars, although I haven't experienced that, and couldn't actually make that comparison either. My immediate feelings were anger and disbelief (you know, the "this just can't be happening, it's likeright out of a movie or something, it's not reality"-type of feeling). And when presented with the storythe police had been told I was a bit bemused too (like, "Wow, it was a good story, and if half of it hadbeen true, I would have led a very exciting life indeed! But trying to think myself into that story is justpure comedy!"). But there was of course hurt too. And I think most of the hurt feelings didn't start to "bubble up"until a while later. I also know that I had some residual effects of the experience lasting for yearsafter (when I read about PTSD much, much later, I realized that I definitely suffered from that for awhile, but I didn't know about that concept then, and I never went to counseling or anything likethat). I became more protective about myself and my things (at least my more personal things, ie.papers, the thing I really hated about that search was having the police go through my personal notes and letters etc), partly in ways that were a sound and healthy reaction to the event, I wouldthink, but partly also to an extent that was not entirely healthy. I also struggled with trust issues(because some of those who put me in that position were people I did trust, up until that, it does make trusting someone again really hard, for a while I was even decided to never, ever let a living soulclose again). For years after I had trouble watching a police search in a movie, silly as that may sound, the secondthe police in the movie kicked open the door and yelled "Police! Don't move!", was the second Iswitched channel, hit fast-forward or left the room. And I really, absolutely, could not stand even the thought of losing control (over myself and my things,I have never had the need to control others). I am still a bit of a control freak in that respect, but Ithink I was before this event too, and I am definitely letting go of the more un-healthy aspects of it.One of the things this affected was my and 's wedding, or the preludes to it at least. It is customaryin Sweden to arrange a fake kidnapping of the people getting married in the days leading up to thewedding (it used to be, the friends of the bride "kidnapped" the bride to be, and the friends of the groom "kidnapped" him, but it's, at least among our friends, more common nowadays to do it in a joint thing). The "kidnapped" bride/groom to be will then be either put through some mildly embarrassing/humiliatingexperiences (could involve some silly costume, or some silly "mission" of some kind), and/or celebratedin a more civilized way. I know you have something like this in the States too, although I am not sure thefake kidnapping is part of it. However, when and I announced that we were getting married, I also stated very clearly that I really, truly, honestly, did not want that pre-wedding thing. When some friends then seemed to misunderstand, and said something about how that "silly" part of if never really appealed to them either, and that they would never put anyone through that. They'd do something more dignified. I did my best to stress that thesilly part was not my main problem, the whole thing as such was. And as they then assured that they hadgot that message, I thought that I had made myself clear. But, no... of course they planned a fake kidnapping. They did a really nice, and dignified, celebration for thetwo of us, with a three course dinner for us two first, followed by a big party, and they had prepared a bedroom really nice for us, with flowers and I don't know it all, and the celebration even included a nice breakfastthe following morning. As far as pre-wedding celebrations go, I don't think you could ask for better. What they never understood, however (and I think, to this day, they still don't get it, I know they meant well, and I have tried to not let on anything else to them), was that the whole experience of a bunch of people suddenlybursting through my front door, of having my hands tied and being blindfolded and driven away in a car (all ofthat are normal parts of the pre-wedding kidnapping and wasn't done in any overly violent way) wastruly, and absolutely, traumatic to me. It just pushed too many buttons with me simultaneously. Of course, thepolice never blindfolded me, but the blindfold represented that feeling of a total loss of control (hard to feel incontrol when you not only can't decide where to go, but can't even see where you are taken, and they of coursedid the drive around for a while so as to confuse the "victim" about the whereabouts, but I pretty much countedon that so I didn't even try to figure out where we were going). It's not that I ever thought it was anything but that fake thing, but that didn't do much to change the way it made me feel. I remember telling whoever it was (a blindfold also makes it hard to identify who is doing what) who took my keys from my jeans pocket as we left the apartment, that: "If the cats are not cared for while I am gone, I will personally kill you all!". That pretty much expressed how angry I was, and of course it wasn't only about the cats, but they were a very good "excuse" for that feeling of rage. Rage and betrayal. As one of my friends of course hadto make sure I was home by making an appointment with me; that sure did a number on those trust issues as well.My point with this long, and possibly boring, rambling, is just that your emotional response to what happenedmay come later. And if it does, don't do what I did and try to suppress it, that'll just give it more power over you, work it through in whatever way works for you instead. And don't let it ruin something that should be a goodexperience for you. Much love/Reb> >> > Anyone still around? I'm shaking like a leaf and have a house full of CSI powder/tape crap to clean up. one night last winter the alarm went off in the middle of the night - I sleep sound when I do sleep - coming down the hall I get Grace screaming in one ear and the alarm in both ears - even with my glasses off and the lights off I can see light around the front door - the door is held by the door chain - of course the kitchen remote and the one in the den were not working right - they kept cutting out

I am 5 ' 5" tall with bed head no glasses and a disreputable nightgown stretched over all 220 pounds of me - I was quite a sight next to grace in her foam head thingee she wears to bed to keep her hair fluffed - they sent two 20 somethings to the call - dropped calls they automatically respond to

I told them the alarm went off and I could see light around the front door - I had put Peaches on the sun porch - I refuse to run after her in the middle of the night in the dark - her bestest game of all

when the officers went outside I thought it would be a good idea to get a craftan on over my nightgown and my glasses on - they came back in and were very professional

having been in school with CJ majors - Psych majors tend to do that - I know they had seen much worse

I am sorry you had to go through that - when they catch them - prosecute them - as my legal aid attorney said I would make a great sight with my rolling walker with the seat in court

invading your home is a violation - it is like rape - it happened in our neighborhood - Randy in the fall - Miko and Kim the same week - they all work - I didn't go anywhere for 3 months until our security alarm got put in

you stay safeGod, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

That's pretty scary stuff honey...

you were raped - you were violated - it was your home - no difference - no differennt from a tour in the sandbox - a break in - or being raped - your mind feels it the same wayGod, grant me the strength of eagles wings, the faith and courage to fly to new heights, and the wisdom to rely on his spirit to carry me there.

And a bit concerned about a few other neighbors who live alone up the street .... hugs, Cait

Re: Police just left my house!!!!!

I am sorry to hear you had such a scary afternoon! I hope everything works out (i.e. that the bad guys are caught, that you get everything back, and in the meantime, that you get some help from your insurance company). I know that the worst part when a home is broken into is seldom the stuff lost, but the feeling of invasion of privacy and a lost feeling of security within your own home – I do hope for healing for that too!

Is there any way you could have an alarm installed? That's where my mind would go, I am sure. You know there are alarms that can be on while you are at home, because they'll detect anyone or anything passing through a window or door, rather than detecting motion within the house. Perhaps that's something your insurance company would be willing to help you with.

But, anyway, just like Akiba said, the worst part is over, now just concentrate on healing.

I know when I was robbed (a LONG time ago, and it was an inside job) I felt violated. Cait, do not be surprised if that doesn't come into play, last night you were shaking, in shock...and after a little bit, maybe a little drunky-poo... Different emotions will surface for the next few days/weeks, but it will pass. Please DO look into an alarm system.

-- Re: Police just left my house!!!!!

Tomorrow I'm going to see about an alarm setup ... hugs, Cait

Police just left my house!!!!!

Now to find the #s to notify my credit cards altho surely they wouldn't be dumb enough to try and use them ... hugs, Cait
