Kate, I know that this is hard to believe, but I have never consumedalcohol as I take Phenobarbital for epilepsy, and I have used "recreational drugs." Finally, I am old enough that doctors do not askme what religion I belong to when I tell them that I have never consumedalcohol, nor ever used drugs. I do not think that I would have done so evenif I did not take Phenobarbital. The dehydration was caused by the fact thatI have cystic fibrosis--first time that I have had an episode like that since per-haps junior high school age! Thank you, Kate,n, who drinks grape juice at ShabbatTo: MSersLife Sent: Fri, June 10, 2011 2:26:02 PMSubject: Re: Birthdays, and so on

Your birthday sounds spectacular....except, the getting sick part! Oh n, poor you. Did you happen to have any wine/alcohol, or does diabetes prohibit that? I know that alcohol dehydrates, and perhaps you were partying! It always so uplifting to read from you. Especially that your birthday(s) always seem to continue for about a week; that is so special. You are truly loved.love,KateFrom: marionjrojas2002

Well, thanks to all of you and to many others, I had a terrific

74th birthday celebration, although there is more to come.

I had a lovely dinner out on my birthday with a very dear friend,

and then I got sicker than a dog on the 8th and the 9th, and spent

the evening at the ER. Dehydration! Good Grief! It has not even

been hot here! 3 bags of saline later and I felt so much better.

I have cystic fibrosis (which is why I have diabetes), and apparently

we really DO lose sodium chloride and water!

After 74 years of this, one would think that I might have learned.

Blood sugars were NORMAL!

I hope that none of you has been ill, and that you are hanging in

with our "Multiple Surprises," "Many Symptoms," and so on!

n, on way out to see granddaughter in her school play and

to have Shabbat at my daughter and son-in-laws' home with the

other granddaughter--these two are the youngest of my grandchildren:

12 and 16. . .

That's not hard to believe at all n. I've already mentioned by crazy results with alcohol and my experience with weed ended up with me hallucinating in the hospital. I think my body is anti-social when it comes to foreign substances :).

And being on meds for constant kidney infections, I've rarely had a drink as an adult. But even now, I get that peer pressure except it just annoys me.

I'm glad your birthday was so nice except for the ending up in the hospital. You sound like me; I'm supposed to drink at least 6 glasses of water daily for my kidneys. But I forget and rarely do I feel thirsty. And good news on your blood sugars; just had his quarterly and got a call that he has to see the dr because the results are too high .... hugs, Cait
