Guest guest
, I feel so bad for what you are having to deal with. I don't have any answers for you but have added your dad in my Prayer list. As for what to expect. Everyone is different and you cannot possilby know what will happen. Have you considered at all getting another opinion for your dad with a different doctor.? Ingrid > Hi: My DAd will finally be discharged after 3 weeks from the hospital. The chemo did a number on his Chrons -- he had toxic poisoning and we almost lost him. He is finally doing better and getting stronger and diarrhea after 22 days is finally slowing down. He had about 4 treatments of Eloxatin/5fu and LV and was changed to just 5fu because of all the gastro issues. He was told by the oncologist no more chemo as it is to dangerous for his body. He has stage 4 colon cancer in one lymph gland and they can see something very small on the liver. He was not a candidate for radiation. He did have surgery and they did remove the tumor but it did spread through the stomach wall. His CEA has stayed at 7.2 and the Scan this week showed the Cancer has not grown . > > What are our options with out Chemo? How fast will the cancer spread? My mother is in denial she thinks everything will go back to normal. We found the tumor in August and it has been a tough 10 months -- I think my Dad weights about 115 lbs. We meet with the oncologist in a week -- Has anyone else had to stop the Chemo? > thanks for your support -- the support group has helped me to become stronger --instead of crying I spend more time reading about others and realizing that this disease effects many people and my family is not the only family suffering. thanks again,, > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Well glad to hear you dad will be discharged and coming home. The chemo sure was rough on him. Never thought how it might affect his Chrons. Those docs Should have know it would do something. I know how rotten that diarrhea can be, and I just had it for a few days last week. Miserable and wanting to eat and knowing no matter what I ate it was going to come out in very short time. Finally got it under control with bananas and toast. Did have some rice cooked as well. Or the effects just finally wore off. Well certainly glad that his cancer has not grown. Hope they can figure out to treat it properly with no more chemo. colon cancer is a slow growing disease but is no sure thing if it has spread to other parts of body. I will certainly keep your dad in my prayers and your mom as well. She has to realize that this May not come out all right. I know I believe I will be fine when my chemo is done so I may be fantasizing about this as well. I am hoping strongly that I will be done, but just have to wait and see and accept it as it comes. Well I would like to weigh 115 lbs but I guess is good thing that I am nearly 170 lbs and no sign of losing anything. Fast as I lost it with the diarrhea I gained it back again. So it must be meant for me to stay heavy while I am on chemo. I have a voracious appetite. I can eat all day on something. LOL . Well this is not about me but your dad.. Take care God Bless --- Love and hugs Jolene
Guest guest
: Why do you have to wait a week to meet with an oncologist? Why isn't he there for your dad at all times? I don't understand this. Where does your dad live? Is he near a major cancer center? Why didn't they consider surgery on the liver at the time that they removed the colon tumor? If this type of chemo didn't work for him, there may be others that will work. Your oncologist should have a plan. Have you discussed avastin with your dad's oncologist? Take a look at www.avastin.com. > > > > Hi: My DAd will finally be discharged after 3 weeks from the > hospital. Guest guest
Hi: We live in Boston and my Dad goes to one of the best hospitals. The problem is that his body is so weak they give him time to build up. He is seeing his primary this week and was sent home with nursing services. We are not happy that he was in the hospital for over 3 weeks and the oncologist only came by once and I am planning to tell the oncologist how unhappy we are. I wanted to transfer his care but my Dad says no. I will do some research on Avastin but I am afraid they are going to say no because of all the gastro issues. thanks brencolinmom brencolinmom@...> wrote:: Why do you have to wait a week to meet with an oncologist? Guest guest
Hi , First of you say they saw SOMETHING very small on his liver, this may not be cancer ( unless they have definately said it was of course) My 33yrold husband was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in Sept 3 lymph nodes tested positive, mets to abdominal wall lining They removed the tumor from his colon ( all of his sigmoid colon very top part of his rectum) and his abdominal wall lining. Started chemo in Jan , This past march they did a Cat scan and found SOMETHING on his liver, They ordered a PET scan and seems as though it was just a cyst NO BIGGIE!!!!!! I know the not knowing whats next is the worse , Joe ( My hubby) chemo is over in June and then he gets tested ( ct scans , blood work) every so often . His medical report states " There is 100% chance of this cancer coming back, unless it doesnt) So I dont even know if the docs know whats next Please know that your family is in our prayers Deb mary g maryg14129@...> wrote: Hi: We live in Boston and my Dad goes to one of the best hospitals. Guest guest
I realize it was in the not so distant past, that I asked you all for prayer for my dad. Well now, it seems it is truly the end. He had 103 temp yesterday, which has come down now, but his 02 levels have ranged from 57 to 72. He has been unconscious now for nearly 24 hours. Please pray for God's mercy and that peace will surround him as he passes from this world to the next. Thanks to all.Love,Kate
