I don't get bumps, but I do get terrible itching and I haven't found anything to make it stop either, except ice packs, and that only numbs it to where it is bearable. I use perscription antihistamines, steroid creme, but nothing works.

Itchy skin when thyroid meds are wrong

Ok so I asked this from the people on my MySpace forum, but didn't really get much of an answer so I thought I would try here. Starting about a year before I was diagnosed with Graves and had RAI (so about 5-6 years ago) and continuing up until now, but only when my medication is wrong - I get these itchy bumps like hives, they start out as one or two but eventually my whole back and stomach will be covered in them (never my legs or arms) they go away when my medication gets straightened out but while I am waiting I have so far now been able to find anything that helps them. If I go in the sun or to the tanning bed they start going away though (wierd I know but when you feel like you have the chicken pox again - which it isn't that - then you will do just about anything to stop itching). I've tried steroid creams that worked for a bit and then stopped, I have medicine I can take at night but it doesn't get rid of the itchies just makes me tired, the normal topical stuff like benedryl and cortizone cream don't work even the pink stuff. Aloe temporarily helps - every time I show a doctor they are at a loss as to how they should treat it, they know that it's a symptom of thyroid problems but no medicine helps it in the mean time. Ok so my main point is is there anyone else out there going through this and have they found anything to help it? While I like being tan I don't want to encourage my chances of skin cancer - I have enough to deal with with my thyroid.Maggie www.adolescentthyroid.com

Do you have any bumps on the backs of your upper arms? I'm just wondering if it's keratosis. Hypos who are unmedicated or undermedicated can get this condition because they can't readily convert beta keratin to Vitamin A. Have a look at these images and see if there's a similarity... Judy

Nope doesn't quite look like that, they look more like hives -

sometimes I get a few that look kinda like a fire ant bite (but not

exactly like one)
