we spent 11 years in Mountain Home, Id. so kind of, we claim it in our cluster of the west/northwest. Washington, CA, and Idaho. Living in Illinois has been pretty good, as most places are once you decide to familiarize and use the community facilities. I got accustomed much faster than my husband at feeling at home here because I am out in it more due to appts and errands. The one thing that is strange to me is crossing a street puts you in another city/town. coming from a one stoplight town, although not like that now, this is a weird concept. I mailed letters yesterday and the sign said out of town...wasn't sure if I should use that or the local because the freaking towns are smack onto one another so I consider it to be local. I don't think it is however. just strange set up. Mountain

home was more normal to me because there was a 45 min span before Boise that separates towns/cities. DeeTo: MSersLife Sent: Sun, May 8, 2011 12:06:53 AMSubject: Dee....Re: antelope by my house!

There were lots of antelope herds in the landscapes between Mountain Home Idaho and Boise Idaho, about a 45 mile distance of not much... they are beautiful. We use to have a small group of deer run the field across the street from our subdivision/house in one of the few farmed fields left. Now it too is a subdivision and they ran the neighborhood for a couple seasons before being entirely displaced. so sad.

We are about 120 west of Chicago and 40 miles east of the Mississippi River and

Iowa.

It was pretty here. Low 70's but out in the country, as always, windy. We don't

go to the MS doings or my cancer doings. The heat bothers both of us plus I have

fibromyalgia and my feet/legs seem to be bothered a lot from it.

nne, so you have ms, cancer, and fibromyalgia? wow, did that come on all together or in overlapping manner? I have been trying to get my neuro to consider polymyalgia as a possibility and he just walks right past it saying it effect the muscle primarily, and I imagine the fact I am not thin doesn't help since it is suppose to cause weight loss as well. I have anemia, and what I consider tendons binding and some muscle cramping even in my hands and feet so but he just says he attributes it to ms. I am going to have to be somewhat bold and tell him I feel he is not looking beyond the ms, didn't do a thorough mri, isn't doing any checks for polymyalgia or anything else for that matter...and that I feel I am being poo-poo'dand like to know the how/why of things. he also explained how the

copaxone works and it differs in explanation than the pamphlet and the shot nurse. sigh. So it's not like I want any more health crap but would like to know what is what. To: mserslife Sent: Sun, May 8, 2011 5:24:36 PMSubject: Re: Dee....Re: antelope by my house!

No my husband is the one with the MS. I had breast cancer in 1990 and was

diagnosed a few yrs ago with the fibromyalgia. I do have a chance of getting

leukemia from one of the chemo drugs but so far I am doing ok. Both Chuck and I

have diabetes. We have been so blessed with excellent doctors.

well best wished for that to not happen! One of my close gf has fibro for years and years now, not a nice disorder for sure. How long has your husband had ms? I have a young couple for friends that he is newly dx and had the optic neur really severely. He is taking avonex and absolutely hates it. Very disheartening for him as he is only in his late 20's. His wife is very very supportive though so they will get through it. How is it that you both have diabetes? what are the chances of that? Hope your week goes well~ DeeTo: mserslife Sent: Sun, May 8, 2011 6:38:46 PMSubject: Re: Dee....Re: antelope by my house!

Chuck has had MS for about 4 yrs. Doc said its unusual to get it in your 60's.

He does pretty good. Some days he has trouble with his left leg. There is

diabetes on both sides of our families. I hope you have a good week too.

Dee,

When I moved from SWPA (actually bout 40 miles southeast of

Pittsburgh) to Connecticut.. I went into culture shock!! (and

then reverse culture shock when we moved back here).. EVERYTHING

you could possibly want to do was within 5 minutes of the house

in CT.. And it seemed that I couldn't get lost ever up there,

because ALL of the roads ended up going right by my house!

Living in CT was nothing like living in SWPA, even if Pittsburgh

is within an hour drive (traffic) of home! I know that I was

totally surprised when we moved back to the mountain area of

SWPA from CT... to find that our one man owned telephone company

now provided cable television as well as Call Waiting for phone

service.. because when we moved to CT five years previous.. we

still had "party lines" in that mountain area.. and those were

connected by tin cans & kite string!!

Not to mention.. a carriage in SWPA is something you put a baby

in for a stroll.. In CT a carriage was what you put your

groceries in at the store!. In CT, a "buggy" was what you put a

baby in for a stroll, and in SWPA a "buggy" is a vehicle in

which groceries are placed.

I won't even get into the "Hot Oven Grinders" in CT... and my

disappointment when I ordered one to have the waitress bring me

a "heated hoagie/sub"!!! OR the fact that all soda fountain

drinks were called "Coke" in CT.. If you order Coke here in PA,

you're going to GET a glass or bottle of Coca-Cola.. LOL

I did read once about a young gal who turned up in Ohio or some

such place with amnesia.. and the authorities were able to

"place" her original location, from her colloquialisms alone!..

She was from the Pittsburgh area, in which we speak

Pittsburghese!.. And there is actually a website devoted to our

language: http://www.pittsburghese.com/

Enjoy!

we spent 11 years in Mountain Home, Id. so kind of, we

claim it in our cluster of the west/northwest. Washington, CA,

and Idaho. Living in Illinois has been pretty good, as most

places are once you decide to familiarize and use the

community facilities. I got accustomed much faster than my

husband at feeling at home here because I am out in it more

due to appts and errands. The one thing that is strange to me

is crossing a street puts you in another city/town. coming

from a one stoplight town, although not like that now, this is

a weird concept. I mailed letters yesterday and the sign said

out of town...wasn't sure if I should use that or the local

because the freaking towns are smack onto one another so I

consider it to be local. I don't think it is however. just

strange set up. Mountain home was more normal to me because

there was a 45 min span before Boise that separates

towns/cities.

that is too funny! we went from the Northwest states to Alabama and wow, that was an interesting change. thought the people were kind of stuck up and they thought the same about people from the northwest lol. Yes, buggy is still something we make fun of...to us it is a cart. I have two British gf where they have the 'boot' which is the trunk, and a 'kipper handshake' is a weak handshake. And of course we can't leave out being 'daft' which is being stupid here in the states...I love it, so much fun these gals are from near Oxford, lots of enjoyment and fun of life rather than the stuffy proper London stereotypes, two also of which I've encountered while living in Illinois. I'm just a country bumpkin so I find it all so interesting.

Dee,

One never "fits in" down south if you're a born & bred

"Yank"... But I do so love the fact that their children are

taught from day 1 that it's "Yes ma'am, No ma'am" or "Yes sir,

No sir"..

And I got teased, in CT, about my "Southern Accent".. lol.. then

when I'd come back to PA, I'd get teased about my "Northern

Accent"...

And it's all interesting, no matter what!

that is too funny! we went from the Northwest states to

Alabama and wow, that was an interesting change. thought the

people were kind of stuck up and they thought the same about

people from the northwest lol. Yes, buggy is still something
