Ferratin is iron storage which means it is sitting there waiting for your blood to need it, sort of like a reserve tank. Your hemoglobin and hemocrit can look normal even when your ferratin is low beause they are pulling from it. So my guess is that if your ferratin is low, the iron would primarily go there.
