Guest guest
peggy, i was wondering if you had to have all the tests redone in order to get on their list and how long did you have to stay there? i am a single mother and have to work, however, i do have some vaction times coming and go to seattle for about 1-2 weeks. our hospital here at stanford told me that they would follow his care once he is transplanted if we get an offer from them. i know he will have to stay there for a while but i need to have some baseline of what to expect so i can do some planning...... thanks for any feedback you can give me. i am glad it worked out so quickly for you. guess you wish you had done it sooner, huh???? rita -------------- Original message -------------- Rita, I had the same problem as your son. I was listed at U of Colorado for five years and just getting sicker and sicker. Like your son, though, my MELD wouldn't go above about 15 & 16. Finally, I told my dr. there I had to do something as my husband was just diagnosed w/ Alzheimer's and I had to be over the surgery and well because I didn't know how long it would be before I would need to be full-time caretaker. He said there were other centers I could check out. I chose Indiana University Hosp. in Indianapolis because I was born & raised in IN. I went there for tests the first part of May last year ('06), was listed there Memorial Day weekend, and got my liver on June 27th!! I came home to Montana the middle of Sept. and am doing wonderfully. I would highly recommend IU Med Center - Clarian Hosp. any time, especially Drs. Kwo, my hepatologist, and Dr. Tector, my surgeon there. They were all wonderful. There is a Mc house close by and a hotel w / reduced rates for hospital patients' families. I'll be praying for you and your family. Peggy McGovern Billings, MT Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?Check out new cars at Yahoo! Autos. Guest guest
rita- i caught your post about vacation and wondered if you are familiar with F.M.L.A.? If you work in a large enough company you can get excused time for yourself or an immediate family member to have medical treatment, or to care for a loved one. you should use your vacation to relax, but i know being a single mom can be financially challenging and a vacation is usually paid, whereas FMLA is not. pamSee what's free at AOL.com.
