It does sound like Trigeminal Neuralgia, Donna. I'm so sorry you are having that pain in your jaw, teeth and now ear. It all sounds very familiar:)big hugs and prayers for a pain free weekend for you SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. Sharon,

I'm ta betting... since I haven't checked into LDN for quite

awhile (probably should have kept my fingers still on that

question).. but I am ta thinking that more and more doctors are

recognizing, as you said, LDN and it's benefits. Pretty much

like my primary insurance company doing an authorization for my

Provigil from no until 2099. When I mentioned my surprise on

that to my health care manager from Highmark, she said, it was

done that way because they (Highmark) recognize (now) the actual

benefit of that drug for people with MS. Whereas, before now,

it was an uphill struggle to have something prescribed

"off-label" and have it approved easily.

And on the second point, Butalbital (Esgic) wouldn't be any good

for pain either, and would cancel out the LDN... Then I guess

that I wouldn't be able to switch to LDN either, because of the

prescription for the ocular migraines (that I still don't

understand.. the ocular migraines, not the prescription..

LOL)...

Oh good grief.. wonder if I'm going to be told that I'm having

migraines in my teeth now?? Looks as if I'm might be ruining

someone's holiday weekend, and confusing a bunch of doctors in

the ER as well.. IF the pain starts up again tonight in my jaw..

I hate having to head for the ER.. for a toothache... but I'm

pretty sure that a toothache stays a toothache and doesn't go

away during the day, only to come back at night, but not every

night.. or might be here during the day, but not at night.. and

right now, I feel like I've got an earache..

That's Trigeminal Neuralgia, isn't it?

My well respected neurologist precribed LDN

for me and had no problem with it. I know Dan gets LDN from the

neurologist at UCSF. I think if the University of California at

San Francisco is prescribing LDN then other neuros should take

another look at it too. My opinion:)

You can't be on narcotics when on LDN because they act against

each other. Naltrexone was originally used in treatment of

alcoholism and drug abuse to mute their effects. At least

that's what I think I remember;)

Can anyone get Trigeminal Neuralgia? Does anyone know if this is connected to

fibromyalgia as well as MS? I have exactly what you are describing. It can hurt

for a short time and then go away for a few hours. no set time for it to happen.

it has been ok now for 2 days. But the last time it happened it bothered me for

over a week. Prayers you feel better soon.

Hugs

Thanks Sharon,

Not quite pain free, but manageable at least.  did take me

to the Emergency Room yesterday. That ER still amazes me -- I

was in and out in about an hour!.  As it turns out, the dental

school's little "blurb" about going to the ER and the ER

bringing in the dentist/oral surgeon "on call", wasn't worth

more than the cyber-paper they were written on. (LOL).  I

suppose that maybe, had I fallen and broken my jaw or some such

thing, then they'd have paged him/her.  ER Doc, did prescribe

Vicodin for the pain.. (up to 2 pills every 6 hours). I am

already on an antibiotic (Penicillin VK 500mg 4x), just in case

there is an infection or abscess in there, until I can get in a

foot in at the dental school and get teeth that need to come

out, out.

He gave me half an Oxycodone before I left there yesterday,

being as I'd already taken Tylenol before heading out (as well

as all my other myriad of morning pills - Gabapentin, &

Keppra amongst those).  I'm ta thinking you might be right and

that it is T.N. (sparked off by an infection possibly?) and

that's the reason that by the time we had driven all the way to

the hospital (half an hour to an hours drive depending on

traffic) that my pain was greatly reduced by the Gabapentin

and/or Keppra.  The first/last time I had an abscess in a rear

lower molar it wasn't the same type of pain.  That pain just

started abruptly one morning when I woke up, and I couldn't open

my mouth to eat, the pain was bad, but all in the joint area of

the jaw.  This pain isn't, it can range from right around the

tooth (or several different teeth, in different areas), along

the jawline, into the joint (sometimes above.. well pretty much

as you guys have described T.N. as being.

Well, gave tomorrow off, as well.. to "get her to the

dentist" type deal. I'm not sure he should take the day off

though, because I now have a list of dental practices (along

with two dental schools) that are either "low-cost" or accept

both my Medicare Assured supplement and the medicaid from the

state.  If we do the "walk-in" thing at 8 a.m. tomorrow, there

isn't any complete guarantee that I'll be seen (though I have

been assured that's a rare case), or I could sit all day long

waiting to be seen.  Then he would have lost an entire day at

work (and pay), or I could make an appointment and have him

either miss no days or only part of one day.. said to ask

him again later tonight, and he'll decide then <grin>..

OH, but I WOULD be the ONE person to have a dental abscess AND

T.N. happening at the very same time!... I don't think I've ever

"fit the rules" on anything in my life.. <grin>

Thanks for keeping me in your prayers, it IS a very good

possibility that those alone are taking care of this situation!
