Guest guest
What's T4? Why is it important to watch your T4 and what is the normal level? I thought we just had to watch out for our TSH levels being lower than 1? Kelsey.

No - Ideally, it should be taken the same way as you take your T4 - on an empty stomach, away from iron/calcium, etc. However, when you are taking it for a pre/post RAI situation, it's really for your comfort anyway, so I never worry too much about the timing. I usually took one in the morning, early, but if I had a second pill, I just took it somewhere in the middle of the afternoon or so. Guest guest
Hi, Kelsey. > What's T4? Why is it important to watch your T4 and what is the normal > level? T4 is the thyroid hormone our thyroids used to produce that we now take in the form of Synthroid, Levoxyl, etc. A T4 or Free T4 blood test measures how much we have in our bodies. You need to check the " normal " range for your lab, as it may differ. Your T4/Free T4 levels should be at the upper range of that normal, or just above it (since we keep MORE T4 in our bodies to keep the TSH below normal range). > I thought we just had to watch out for our TSH levels being lower than > 1? Actually, the goal is lower than 0.1 :-) Cheers, Alisa Currently - TSH 0.02, 140mcg Levoxyl 2/15/2002: Nodule found 2/27/2002: FNA 3/4/2002: Hysterectomy/oopherectomy-possible ovarian cancer - BENIGN!! 4/9/2002: TT - Stage 2 pap 2.5 x 2 x 1.6 cm nodule, dx Hashimotos 5/28/2002: 100 mCi RAI 12/16/02: WBS (5 mCi): clean scan - no thyroid tissue in body!!! Guest guest
I was put on Cytomel the day after surgery, taking it 2 x a day. My endo is apparently using it to get my levels in order, since I started at 25 mcg x 2. She now has me on 12.5 mcg x 2, since my labs were so bad. Take at least one on an empty stomach and do the best you can with any other doses.

Guest guest
I would love to know that too. I guess a person could have it compounded at a pharmacy. Trying to split those is impossible for me. I am not on it right now but will likely do T3 in the future. Cheri -----Original Message----- I am going to treat myself with some cytomel in addition to Blanchard's treatment. I know I have to. The bottle I ordered is 25 mcgs. and when I try to cut them up I can't get them to split well into 4 equal pieces and sometimes they shatter. Does anyone know a source where I can order 5 mcg. tablets of Cytomel or even 10 mcg tablets? .
