Hi:

I didn't have a good experience with bioidenical progesterone. It caused me to have vaginal bleeding. DHEA did the same thing. I am also low in estrogen and testosterone. I have been using a bioidentical E & T cream since June 2006.

It's Estradiol and Testosterone compounded in an aloe vera gel. I get it at a compounding pharmacy and my doctor write the prescription. I think Estrace is just estradiol, but I could be wrong.

Hi Melinda,

Question, do you know why you are deficent/low in Vitamin D? Most

people aren't and it could suggest something like Celiac disease

(gluten-intolerant).

Also, who is your V specialist? Looking for one myself.

Thanks,

Emma

Hormones are different for everyone. I tried progesterone and it was a nightmare, it increased the burning, and I felt awful on it. My savior has been Testosterone cream. I tested Low T and low DHEA. It really is important to have your levels checked. Then ask for the numbers and check them out yourself. My first doc just said YOU ARE NORMAL and did not give me the numbers. I finally found a doc that shared the information and I compared it to what Vliet says is normal and I was REALLY on the low side of the T range, which explained my low energy. lack of libido and hairless legs. (the only good part!). I now have an appointment with a doctor that participated in a study that showed most patients with vestibulitis tested low in androgens. Hi:

I'm not Melinda, but I am deficient in Vitamin D. I had a blood test and it was very low.

Melinda,

I've been on bio-identical progesterone for the past 14 mths and it has

been the best thing for me. I was definitely deficient in it b/c

everything about my body and mind has been better since taking it. I

took it in pill form for 9 mths and then I've been using a cream since

then (insurance ran out and it was cheaper with the cream). The cream

(1/4 tsp) gave me the same amount of P as the pill in balanced amount.

What I mean is, if you take a pill, you need 10x the amount of P than

in a cream b/c it has to get through your digestive track to be used.

So I had 200 mg of P in pill form and 1/4 tsp cream gives me 22 mg of

P. It's just right. I wish that I would have known that my P was so

messed up years ago, but I didn't know to check until it was so low

that I was having a difficult time maintaining my pregnancy. My body

just couldn't make enough on it's own. I started on the P to prevent

despression and it helped in many other ways...ie: I've lost 54 lbs

that I couldn't ever lose before (without much effort). I would give

it a try and see if it helps. I just got the cream from a health foods

store and you don't have to have a prescription for it. If you have

any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Take care,

>

Emma,

I am gluten intolerant, actually! I have only been gluten-free for a

few months so perhaps my gut needs more time to heal before it can

absorb these nutrients again. Good thought, by the way, I hadn't

thought of that yet.

My V specialists are Dr. 's practice in Burlington MA. They are

good but not great...they are reluctant to prescribe hormones and a

little pill-happy for me. They want everyone on antidepressants. And

I'm more of a natural girl. =)

It was so nice to hear how much the prog. helped you! My fear is that

it's not really the prog. that's the issue - I have no weight problems,

no depression, nada as far as other symptoms, just the LP and the

really irregular cycles. I am really hoping, like I posted before, that

giving up gluten will eventually start the healing for me...it just

takes a long time and is hard to wait for. But I may give the cream a

trial. I just don't want to get stuck on something forever. At least

it's bio-identical. =)

I had my T tested and several doctors have said it's fine although it's

low according to Vliet. Unfortunately, Vliet is not my doctor! =) It

was 24. I am using topical T on my vulva and abdomen every other day

for LP and sex drive but have been doing that for several weeks with no

improvements in LP or sex drive! =) I wish it would work.

Hey Melinda,

Some docs (Dr. Peacocke in NYC) thinks there is a connection between

gluten-intolerance with Vitamin D Deficentcy and Vulvar issues. I am

currently taking high doses of a Vitamin D supplement. Maybe this is

something you can discuss with your doctor? I do not recommend taking

Vitamin D supp. without talking to your doc first, as it can be very

dangerous in too high doses.

Do you know your Vitamin D number? Some theroies suggest it needs to

be 50 ng/mL to maintain optimal health.

Best,

Emma
