How are you guys starting HC?

I am trying to start it slowly, by increasing 2.5 mg every 3 days, but it just

isn't working. How slow do I have to start it?!

The past few days, I have increased about 2.5 mg each day, because it seems like

the more I am giving myself, the more my body is demanding. Today is Day 8, and

this is what I did today:

6 am 5 mg

9 am 5 gm (I tried to wait until 10 am, but couldn't because of anxiety)

1 pm 2.5 mg

6:45 2.5 mg (I tried to wait until bedtime but couldn't because of anxiety,

feeling cold)

I might need to dose later tonight, because I am afraid once my cortisol goes

too low (which it probably will!), I won't be able to sleep.

I want to try increasing my dose again tomorrow morning to 7.5 mg to see if it

helps me wait 4 hours in between doses.

Thanks,

Olif

Do you have a doctor writing the prescription and if so what does

he/she say?

When I started HC I started 20 mg on day one. My doctor asked me to

dose at 4 even spaces from waking up until 4 pm. So, it was something

like 7.5 (7 am), 5 (10 am), 5 (1 pm), 2.5, (4 pm). He told me not to

take any after 4 pm or I would have trouble sleeping (not a problem

for me but it is for many others).

It sounds like you may need to investigate other methods or

medications to help with anxiety and feeling cold (the cold part is

probably thyroid).

The natural body rhythym is more like cortisol naturally falls in the

evening for sleep and starts increasing in the early morning in

preparation to wake up.

In general people (even people with diagnosed 's disease) don't

take any doses of HC after 4 pm. If you start to give yourself night

time doses now your body might get used to it and it may be a

difficult habit to break.

I have found that 4 doses every 3 h works good for me. Many others

use a 3 dose every 4 h schedule (7 am, 11 am, 3 pm).

I started at 10 mg in the morning 5 mg at lunch and 5 mg around 4.

It was what I needed and there were no ill effects from starting

so " fast " . I believe 20 mgs and under is consider a physiological

dose and in some people - it is essential.

Thanks, Val. I am glad to hear this! I am going to start 20 mg today (up from 15

yesterday). I am going to try 4 doses, instead of 3 only because I seem to have

problems with morning doses spread more than 3 hours apart- that is when I start

getting jittery, etc. It goes away after HC. Hopefully a dose at 4 will help me

sleep at night. Prior to this, my latest dose would be anywhere from 1-3 p.m. By

9-10, I would start having jitteriness and couldn't sleep without 2.5 mg HC.

Thanks,

Olif

--- My Son now takes 30mgs a day for his s and is doing better

now taht it is 20 am and 10 midday. I think everyone is different but

it is probably better trying to follow the bodies natural rhythm first

like you are doing.

If it doesn't suit you try other ways of taking it.

As someone said, some people actually need a little bit at night to

help them sleep, even though it is the reverse for most people.
