Frances,

Did you start the thyroid medication at the same time as the cortisone

acetate and did the doctor gradually increase? I agree with Dean, the

racing heart could be a hyper thyroid symptom - meaning the dose was

too high or increased too fast.

Usually the cortisol would be introduced first, then the thyroid at a

low dose and the thyroid increased gradually every 6 weeks or so.

I would split the cortisone acetate to 4 doses, ie 5 mg at 7 am, 10

am, 1 pm, and 4 pm. There is no need to take any after 4 pm.

Teitelbaum says to use the lowest dose that feels the best and not to

go above 20 mg.

You may find the book " From Fatigued to Fantastic " by Teitelbaum helpful.

When you see your doctor ask for testing of TSH, free T3, free T4 and

antithyroid antibodies (there are 3 antibody tests). What I do is

skip my morning thyroid medication, go for the blood test, and then

take the medication. I'm not sure that this is the 'right' way to do

it but at least I am consistent each time.

It is the T4 that could lead to the racing heart, wired and tired feeling.

Maybe divided at breakfast and lunch, when you need more cortisol, would help.
