Check out http://www.ccfa.org/info/about/complications/eye, which explains the eye complications frequently seen with UC. Even if Owen has not been diagnosed with UC, it's very possible he has it (asymptomatically).

I have been having problems with my eyes...I would wake up in the morning with junk in my eyes and every time i would blink it is like a dirty film was on my eyes That wouldn't go away...then it would start up at nite time again..
