Guest guest
That's very generous. I really do try to be very understanding and give others the benefit of the doubt.... but in this case I think I would feel much more compassion for the woman if she hadn't left her daughter outside of a bar. I'm sure there are safer places. I certainly hope it was a heart-wrenching decision. That girl is so lucky that someone caring noticed her and got the right kind of help. I pray for her other child and I hope the authorities keep some sort of tabs on that situation. "Eva Cameron said that she has another disabled child and that caring for both was too much to handle, according to the Northwest Herald." So sad that this woman felt so overwhelmed and unable to find help. It is unfortunate that she didn't have a support system or family she could ask for help. I can only assume that this mother felt this was the only available solution, as she says, Tennessee has the best medical services available. She must have become very frustrated with the services/system and the red tape of the health care system in Illinois. Sometimes it can be very frustrating and upsetting. Thank goodness for 's list and everyone on it, and thank goodness for all of the support I have through family and friends. I have had days when I am stressed but I have never been so down or feeling so lonely that I would do this to my child. It must have been a heart wrenching decision for this woman. Guest guest
I absolutely agree with sandy what kind of mother would leave a disabled child outside a bar.My thoughts as I was reading the article was that she was so overwhelmed that she had no clue of the where she was dropping her off but then when u drop your child off like that don't you want to make sure she is atleast safe and not harmed. But then she also states she cannot and would not take care of her. That totally took all sympathy out of this situation.Hope this girl is taken care of in this cruel world wherePeople are there to taken advantage of situations like this.My prayers for this girl and her mom and the other disabled child. Guest guest
This Mom has two disabled children, probably a single Mom and maybe unemployed or recently unemployed. She may have no family support and might be on the Illinois version of our medwaiver waitlist. Sounds like she looked at what State her daughter might get the best care and this was obviously a very desperate move on her part. News stories never tell the complete or accurate story. We all walk in similar shoes to this Mom, I hope none of us ever has to make a desperate decision like she has. Guest guest
The irony here is that this girl will probably now get services that she may not have gotten before. In the long run, she might be better off than a lot of our kids that continue to sit and wait on our medwaiver list. I do not pass judgement on any special needs mom, though I do think dropping her kid off at a bar was poorly handled.Subject: Re: Official: Mom leaves mentally disabled daughter at bar, refuses to retrieve her - CNN.comTo: sList Date: Thursday, July 12, 2012, 11:51 AM This Mom has two disabled children, probably a single Mom and maybe unemployed or recently unemployed. Guest guest
The part about the girl being dropped off outside a bar makes the story a lot " juicier " doesn't it? I wonder how much " journalistic license " went into that little tidbit. If she had been dropped off almost anywhere else the story would not have been nearly as interesting, heck it's in the title. Never believe everything you read in a news story is accurate, it seldom is. Many States have laws allowing newborns to be dropped off (abandoned) " no questions asked " at fire stations and hospitals. This Mom hung in there for 19 years, and with a second disabled child at home. Maybe by keeping them both at this time in their lives was endangering one or both of them. Maybe there was aggression or elopement involved, or critical care for the child at home that did not allow the appropriate supervision of the older child. Like I said: I hope none of us ever has to make a desperate decision like she has. Guest guest
Yes, I agree, that the mom may now get services that she didn't have before. For sure a dramatic act like that will get more attention focused on one's needs, than the equally needy ones patiently sitting on a waiting list.
