Emergency Healthcare in Adults with IDD; Communication of Health Care Needs Presented by April 25, 2012 10:00am-11:00am EDT The AADMD in association with its partner organizations is offering a series of Webinars in which they will review the various challenges and issues too often encountered to those with IDD during various Emergency Health situations. This third Webinar will focus on the importance of communication and need for data to ensure that health care quality and needs are met. About the Presentation Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) often have complex and fragile health issues which commonly result in the need for acute health interventions. The ability to provide accurate and safe health practices in an acute health emergency is often very challenging due to a number of circumstances including language barriers, miscommunication, lack of chronic disease data, as well as a lack of training by health professionals of the complexities of health issues in those with IDD. Health outcomes, quality of life, support staff and family burden as well as a significant economic strain could be alleviated by the creation of educational events and the development of standards of care practices. About the Presenter Dr. Perkins, PhD, RNMH from the Florida Center for Inclusive Communities/UCEDD, University of South Florida, Tampa, Fl and Associate Professor Robyn A Wallace FRACP, PhD, Physician SHAID Clinic, Calvary Health Care, Tasmania, Australia will be presenting. Registration Instructions The Webinars are offered free of cost but registration is required. Professional educational credits and participation credits will be available for future Webinars. These presentations would be of great interest to self advocates, advocates, health professionals, emergency care professionals, as well as to organizations and agencies that support those with IDD. System Requirements PC-based attendees Requires: Windows® 7, Vista, XP or 2003 Server Macintosh®-based attendees Requires: Mac OS® X 10.5 or newer An archived version of the Webinar will be available at http://usf.us1.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=66d159b7802dfc34a3402a299 & id=3d65417328 & e=adeb0af0ff Keep an eye out for these upcoming webinars April 18, 2012 FCIC's 2012 Employment Webinar Series continues tomorrow at 5:00pm EST with "Disclosure: To Do or Not to Do?"
