Guest guest
I do know that a study was done on the brain's electrical activity of hypothyroid patients using QEEG technology. They tested 50 patients who had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. They did baseline testing, testing on T4, testing on T3 and testing on a T4/T3 combo. At baseline, they found abnormalities in the QEEG. With the T4, they found some improvements in the EEG. With the T3, they found more improvements but not normalization. With the combo T4/T3, they found complete normalization of the QEEG. I'm not sure how this correlated to clinical symptoms, but it was an objective measure of what the two different medications can do to the electrical activity of the brain, either alone or in combination. No, we do not need T4, as long as we are taking T3. NO fog, NPO concentraitopn difficulties none of the symptoims that woudl indicate any thyroid shortage in the brain. I also sleep liek a rock 7.5-8 hours a night which I never did on natural thyroid. In fact I owuld pretty much ne great if I had energy which is from the Diabetes and low IGF-1 I have. And if my fingers would relearn how to type! Guest guest
Hi Val,I wasn't forming an opinion, just meerly passing along information that I had read. Like I said, I wasn't sure how it translated into relief of clinical symptoms. Overall, a person would want a " normal " brain scan; however, I have seen people with normal scans have a ton of psychological problems and people with abnormal scans be quite " normal. " BTW, I only know a hand full of people who can remember people's names, and they all use tricks to do so. To me, remembering people's names is more of an art form than a sign of memory or intelligence.... Sorry I still do nto believe we need T4. Guest guest
That is a fascinating study. Many people do well on NT (combo T3/T4). The obstacle we've run into - and does not appear to have been addressed at all in this study - is the conversion (or mis-conversion) T4 into Reverse T3. I would love to see this study expanded to include high RT3 subjects; until then I'm not sure how applicable it is to us. Nick's website has some interesting pages on this subject: http://thyroid-rt3.com/swapping.htm http://thyroid-rt3.com/doi.htm > > > > > > If T4 is basically just a storage hormone, and from what I have read even > > people who don't have a thyroid becuase it was removed don't need it, is > > there really ever an instance where someone would need it as long as they > > are taking T3? > > > > > > I just stopped taking my T4 and many times I feel great, but I am having > > some slight headaches and mild aches in my muscles. Guest guest
My Naturopath says we don't need T4. Her comment was, "It is just a storage hormone" I was SO glad to hear her say that because I WAS going to ask her if I could go on T3 only for good....I didn't have to, she ASKED if I wanted to. I LOVE her!!!Even though I am still working on a stubborn morning low cortisol, I also feel better than I have in the 20yrs I was on Syncrap. Speaking of cortisol ( I know this is not adrenal board) but if I may, I am taking 1 pellet of Isocort between 7 & 8 am. She wanted me to take two but I had a fast pulse of 113 about 6hrs later. Now I do not think it was the Isocort I think it was a reaction to something I ate or drank ( Sulfite sensitivity) Anyway, I am going to start two pellets tomorrow. SHould I take them both at the same time or should I take one between 7 & 8 am and one in the afternoon. I feel really tired by afternoon. Thanks and sorry for cheating. :(VeniziaVenizia Sorry I still do nto believe we need T4. Guest guest
Very good point Margery. I'm just lurking around here reading all of the posts trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks again for all of your good info and logic. THANK ALL OF YOU SO MUCH. I am feeling hopeful about feeling good in another 12 to 24 weeks after feeling like heck and in pain for the last almost 10 years. > > > > > > > > If T4 is basically just a storage hormone, and from what I have read even > > > people who don't have a thyroid becuase it was removed don't need it, is > > > there really ever an instance where someone would need it as long as they > > > are taking T3? > > > > > > > > I just stopped taking my T4 and many times I feel great, but I am having > > > some slight headaches and mild aches in my muscles.
