This clinical trial procedure received approval for a limited number of patients by UC San Diego's Institutional Review Board (IRB) which oversees clinical research. " The purpose of this clinical trial is to test more 'patient-focused' techniques for minimally invasive surgery, " said Mark A. Talamini, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Surgery at UC San Diego Medical Center. Guest guest
HI Ora..... thanks for that. That sure seems odd and coincidental, both at UC San Diego Med Center, and within a few days of each other, both for the appendix but removed from different ends of the body.. Jeeze. What's next, (I won't even state a guess as a picture just formed in my mind, LOL) It sure makes me wonder what else they're experimenting on and if they have informed consent for the subjects. Guest guest
I guess I'm just wishing those docs would experiment on each other...there's no way I would knowingly be ok with some experimental something like that unless my life was on the line. I like my idea...docs have to practice OVER AND OVER on each other before they're let loose on the rest of us. Maybe that would either give them more empathy or weed out the stinkers. Guest guest
interesting, that's just what the pelvic PTs do, maybe that's why they are so compassionate Re: Appendix removed thru Vagina? Guest guest
The one who had the vaginal procedure was a third year student at the university and the one who had it via his mouth was a man who was " interested " . Both probably paid nothing for their surgeries since they were investigational and were covered by a grant. Guest guest
I know...but I think it's really really hard to truly have " informed consent " -meaning an understanding of ALL of the risks and benefits...the potential long-term issues, side-effects, etc., unless you are in the medical profession or VERY well-researched on an experimental procedure. Guest guest
I know that when you sign saying that it is OK to have medical students participate in surgery that they often actually PERFORM the surgery. I will never again have any surgery done in a teaching hospital. Has anyone ever watched Diagnosis X? It is on the discovery health channel and if it is for real at all, it shows that in teaching hospitals, care can get pretty sketchy. love, Molly Re: Appendix removed thru Vagina?
