Guest guest
About 10 years ago, I had trouble with urine incontinence. My gyno. referred me to a woman who used a probe that I inserted vaginally to help me to learn to control the pelvic muscles. Not to sound stupid, but.....when you guys are talking about PT, would that be the same type of therapy that you are referring to?? It seems to me that it could be helpful, because back then, my muscles were too loose and therefore I was leaking urine. Now, possibly they are too tight, which is causing pain. The good news is that I no longer have any problem with leaking urine! Guest guest
Hi Molly, The physical therapy office that I go to is Mauro-Bertolo PT in Cicero, NY (just north of Syracuse). The therapist I see is Sharon Riccio, and I believe there's another woman there who also specializes in women's issues. They treat urinary incontinence also. She uses ischemic pressure and massage along the muscles to help losen them. I have a lot of spasms. She also does a full skeletal assessment, which I really like, because I think that a lot of my muscular issues are related to problems with my low back. (I had a lumbar fusion 2 1/2 years ago and I was having issues with pinched nerves and muscle tension prior to that. It seemed that my vestibulitis symptoms increased as my back problems increased.) I have core stabalization exercises to do at home as well. She's really big on giving you things that you can work on at home. She had me get vaginal dilators (which are made right here in Syracuse) to help me do the pressure and stretching myself at home. I have definitely noticed a difference in just 5 weeks and I am more encouraged now that I will recover from this! (I also went off the pill, which also helped immensely until I got pregnant a year ago. I think hormones play a big part for me too.) > > Will you share her name and we'll put her on the happypelvis list of good PTs. What is she doing for you? Is she skin rolling? (ouch!) I know there is a PT who went to work with Rhonda about two years ago. She went with a girl I was helping at the time (she's now well). I wonder if it's the same one, I think she was around Rochester. > > > Molly - PT > > Hi Molly, > > I know how much you're always encouraging everyone to try PT, since it > helped you so much, and I just want to thank you for that. Guest guest
Your question isn't stupid - I think some have had that kind of therapy with the vaginal probe (I think it's called biofeedback?) but many of us don't. Most of us who have success with PT get methods done like skin rolling, internal work (the PT uses their finger to work in the vagina/rectum if necessary), tripper point release, dilator therapy at times.
