Guest guest
Russ: " You must build up slowly. Start at 2.5mg for two or three days and increase 2.5mg every three days until you get to 20mg and review. " I am not certain, but I think this is true for people who have already begun thyroid treatment prior to HC. Starting slowly will prevent a thyroid dump, which can happen if too much thyroid hormone has built up in the blood and suddenly has cortisol to get it into the cells. I didn't know this when I started HC a few weeks ago. I am not on thyroid support, and I had an EXTREMELY difficult time starting HC slowly. From the 2nd day, my body started demanding it, and I would have really low cortisol in between doses. Your body lets you know when you are supplying it with enough. If you pay attention (and it really screams when you need more- at least mine did!), you should be fine. I was getting worried because I was increasing about 2.5 mg each day. I was worried that my body wouldn't stop demanding more. When I got to 25 mg, that was finally enough. After just a few days on that, I was able to drop to 22.5. I can't get down to 20 mg right now...There is absolutely no way I could have followed the schedule on STTM site, increasing by 2.5 mg every 3 days. While I was starting, Val on the NTHAdrenals list was very helpful! -Olif
Guest guest
Thanks Olif! I have just started to take HC, but am having a few problems. I am currently getting anxious after an hour after my first 2.5 mg and feel very on edge and foggy headed when this happens I know i need HC as i feel like this when i am at work anyway, but can you get worse on small doses, before you get better on large doses? I started on 5mg (2 x 2.5mg a day) but now have moved up to 7.5mg after 3 days (3 x 2.5mg a day). Is this moving too slowly, or may i need to do the opposite and try and raise 2.5 mg maybe every 2 days? I am also currently on 3 grains of Armour, so dont want to get invloved in the thyroid dump as you mentioned, as i am still hypo but all my Free T3 and T4's are quite high, beening its just pooling in the blood and nor getting into my cells. Many Thanks Russ > > Russ: > " You must build up slowly. Start at 2.5mg for two or three days and > increase 2.5mg every three days until you get to 20mg and review. " Yes, this is what happened to me! That is why I just couldn't start slowly. I still can't go 4 hours in between doses, like on the STTM site. I have to dose 3 hours in between my first 2 morning doses and then 3.5 hours, and sometimes 4 hours for the following. I also take 2.5 mg before bed, because I need it to sleep, or I can't sleep or awaken with low cortisol symptoms during the night. If you are doing worse in the a.m., which is how I was, you probably need more than 2.5 mg for that first dose. I was raising 2.5 mg every day for a while, because I just couldn't get rid of the awful symptoms. I would get internal shaking and eventually nausea if I didn't dose. My first symptom of low cortisol seems to be a heavy heart beat. I think it is racing, but when I feel my pulse, I find out it isn't racing at all. It seems to be pausing occasionally though and just beating harder, but not faster. HC gets rid of it. Recently I increased my first dose to 10 mg, instead of 7.5, because I would still have the heavy heart beat in the a.m. until I took my 2nd dose. So far this seems to be helping. I tried taking off 2.5 mg later in the afternoon, but it doesn't seem to be working. That means I am at 25 mg again. Maybe in a few days to a week I can go down to 22.5 again and eventually 20. I also had a couple stressful days and didn't stress dose. That could also be why I am requiring 25 mg the last couple of days. " I am currently getting anxious after an hour after my first 2.5 mg and feel very on edge and foggy headed when this happens " This does sound like your first dose isn't high enough. This is when I had most of my problems in the beginning too- that first a.m. dose! " as i am still hypo but all my Free T3 and T4's are quite high, beening its just pooling in the blood and nor getting into my cells. " Are your free's testing high in your blood? Did you by chance get saliva free's too? If they are high in your blood and low in your saliva, there is a chance for a thyroid dump. You might need to go slower than I did, since I wasn't on any thyroid support. With your early a.m. symptoms, it does sound like your first dose needs to be higher though. Maybe you can increase that one to 5 mg and hold it for 2-3 days. I think if you pay attention, you can increase by symptoms though. Once you know what your low cortisol symptoms are, you can increase as you are experiencing them. Well, that is what I did and how I was increasing 2.5 mg everyday. I was worried the symptoms wouldn't go away, but they did when I got to 25 mg, and I started feeling really, really great! -Olif
