I can't speak for Andy. I know that _many_ other scientists/ authors recommend high doses. It has to do with the fact that we have evolved on a diet high in omega 3, need plenty of omega 3 for repair and function of our cells and our food supply has become extremely deficient in omega 3. Apparently mercury also destroys essential fats making it even more critical for us to supplement. > Also > would increasing the doses help with connective tissue problems? > I'm not sure. There has been plenty of research on omega 3 in recent years. A google search might answer your question. > I would put out a warning to people mixing Borage oil with fish oil > because it can increase the chance of your skin bruising. This > appears to have happened to me. > I personally don't use borage oil. When I first started to make diet changes I used evening primrose oil (supplies the GLA that is also supplied in borage oil). As time went on and I researched more I realized that by changing my diet I had removed the road blocks to the enzymes in the pathway leading to GLA, so I gradually reduced the evening primrose oil to nothing. Mercury probably blocks those enzymes too. I have read that we only need a small quantity of GLA. There is something in Barry Sears book " The Anti-Aging Zone " about large doses of GLA being detrimental to some people. (I don't have the book right now so can't give the exact quote).
