Did you know that UM-NSU CARD has an advisory board of constituents? These constituency board members provide critical advice and help direct our program's mission, programs and services. Our two newest members are from Broward County, and we would like you to " meet " them!

Bellack is a native Floridian. She is married and is the mother of two. Her oldest child, , is 28 years old and is her inspiration. He was diagnosed with ASD over 25 years ago, and actively lobbied for early intervention legislation and appropriate educational services. Her daughter, Jill, is 27 and is a Speech and Language Pathologist. was instrumental in guiding his sister into her chosen profession. currently serves as the Executive Director of Parent to Parent / Family Network on Disabilities of Broward County, an organization she founded in 1988, as a means to assist families in becoming the best advocates for their children. 's past activities include being a charter board member of the University of Miami Center for Autism and Related Disabilities and former president of the statewide Family Network on Disabilities of Florida.

Dianne Orr has been living in Broward County for 17 years. She has been married to her husband, , for 24 years, and has 2 children, (18) and (16). was diagnosed with autism in February 2000, and Dianne became involved in her first autism walk that June. Dianne has been involved with NAAR/Autism Speaks since the walks came to South Florida. She has been on the walk committees in both Broward and Palm Beach for the last 12 years, and has co-chaired 9 times. She holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Montclair State University, and has worked at Office Depot's corporate headquarters for 15 years.

Miami-Dade Social GAIN

Social GAIN (Social Group for Aspies to Interact and Network) is a support and activity group for high-functioning adults on the autism spectrum. All first-time attendees must arrange to meet with one of the group facilitators before the meeting. This month's theme is " Coping with Stress " .

FIU Presents: Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention

EIBI, a new program by Florida International University, offers one-to-one intervention and individualized skill building in the areas of communication and socialization. EIBI's purpose is to prepare children under 3, who are diagnosed or at risk for developmental disabilities, for success in pre-school programs.

Saturdays by the Bay

Florida International University:

Project PREPARE

PREPARE (Preparing Rigorous and Effective Professionals as Autism Researchers and Educators) is designed to improve the education of students with ASD. Participants will earn a MS degree in Special Education. Full tuition funding will be provided to two cohorts of 20 students each. The GRE is not required, and many courses will be online.

We will be hosting an information session and interviews for the first cohort on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 5:00pm on the Maidique Campus. Please RSVP to Piontkowski.

Free Law Enforcement Seminar
