Guest guest
Just in from Ken’s CB site (a late post on a Friday night!!!) FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 2007 11:46 PM, CDT “This morning the wash out went well. The doctor said he was surprised they found only one liter of fluid but his LFTs were still elevated. At that time he said he would wait until Thursday or Friday of next week to determine if he was going to re-list Ken. During the day they ran additional tests and his LFTs were even higher than expected and his bilirubin level hit 10. They started Ken on dialysis to protect his kidneys. His blood pressure and glucose were stable. The doctor believes Ken’s new liver is failing so he decided this evening to re-list Ken Status 1A. This we hope will give him a chance to choose a second liver. Ken is still on the ventilator from this morning’s surgery, but we all had a chance to visit him in the ICU several times this afternoon/evening. We realized that the Henshaw family will not win any awards playing charades…Ken was trying to motion/signal to us what he wanted since he could not talk, and the three of us were guessing outloud while Ken tried to shake his head. When we told the nurse that he was trying to tell us something but we couldn’t figure it out, the nurse took one look at him wave his hand and said he’s hot. Ken indicated he hit it right on the nail. We got a pad of paper and Ken tried to write, and we became slightly better at guessing thanks to his IM shorthand. We were able to get a few ‘choice’ words from him that can not be published here, but were vintage Ken. He did ask what was going on and we told him he was stable and that the doctor was going to look for a better liver.” http://www.caringbridge.org/cb/inputSiteName.do?method=search & siteName=ken
