Hi ,

My sister's two babies are test tube babies. Due to a birth defect in my

sister her fallopian tubes never developed. Without those there isn't any

way you can *naturally* conceive. The only way my sister could conceive her

own biological children was to go with in-vitro fertilization. As for stem

cell research, I have to say I'm for it. Who could look someone in the eyes

with a dibilitating disease, knowing that stem cells can alleviate their

symptoms or even cure them and say " sorry, you can't have that treatment " ?

in MA

Diagnosed w/Graves, 03/1997

Refusing RAI Treatment!!!

Remission from 06/2000 to 07/2002, suspected " hyper " again.

Ok, we're getting way off topic here but technically with test tube

babies not involving any donors it's still a) the father plus B) the

mother equaling c)a baby. ( I guess this is true re donor parts too but

my a+b=c equation is one that I would have no problem sharing with my

child when age-appropriate.) I was a kid during the first test tube birth

but I don't think there was the issue of countless mutations such as

with cloning.

Take care, Fay

My husbands brother and wife have four test tube babies, both had fertility

problems, went through years of testing. My mother in law was very upset

they did what they did saying it wasn't natural, that if God wanted them to

have babies they could have. Well, this is how I look at things God gave

the knowledge to these doctors, scientist etc. to be able to do the things

they do today. Science never interested me and I still have to like

something to enjoy science, but the medical break throughs that have been

happening it amazes me and is very interesting.

Recently I was reading an article in the newspaper but lost it, so I am

looking for some help, Simon, , Jody, Elaine, Pam anyone. It was

research for growing new veins for people with vascular problems. It was

suppose to be from the New England Journal of medicine I tried looking for

it but have found nothing. If someone sees anything on this please forward

to me.

Hi Tori-

That was a long time ago. I was a very young teenager at the time and I can

remember all the adults talking about how awful it was and that they

couldn't possibly be real babies if they were made in test tubes (they

really used petri dishes). They talked about little Louise like she was a

monster.

I completely forgot about it until we got onto this cloning thread today.

Hi Tori-

I mean if I want to make my own tissues from my own diploid egg (2 copies of

DNA) to try to cure my illness, I shouldn't be prevented. No one should be

forced to opt for this either.

What they can do is take stem cells from this. Expose it to certain

cytokines and then it can develop into a certain kind of tissue without it

really getting to the embryo stage.

It would avoid Simon's dark scenario.

In fact, today they were able to make actual teeth using stem cells. Wow!

Take care,

Whoops. I meant to clear that message I just sent on test-tube/cloning

musings. It was extremely irrelevant and I apologize for clogging email

boxes around the world (and for doing so again with this message ;-)

Have a great weekend, Fay
