We had one in Texas. It couldn't garner enough paying support to make it a

viable force. Lots of folks gave lip service, few gave out of their wallet for

memberships. And without the money that having a solid membership base brings,

the organization is not very fruitful in the long run and eventually dies.

If you notice from reading the article from Indiana though, it mentions in one

place that he spoke with hundreds of EMT's. But in another place it mentions,

he has over " a dozen " requests for membership. Sounds familiar. I hope they

garnish more certificant/licensee PAYING support than EMSAT managed. I hope

they can get the attention and needed support of the EMS community - not just

lip service.

We have an association. It's called the EMS Assciation of Texas (EMSAT

$ and despite the efforts of many on this list we cant seem to grow

beyond a handful of Members and thats a shame since with over 50,000

EMS Providers we should and could be the largest EMS associatin at the

state level.

EMSAT is still alive allbeit on life support. This week Board Member

Bohn is taking time from his job and spending his own monies to

attend a meeting of state level EMS orginizations hosted by the

Wisconsin EMS Association. They have over 7,500 Members must be the

change takes time, perserverance and a certian tenacity. It is ironic

that in todays kwynoe at the FDIC the theme was " don't give up, you're

not alone " .

The Members of EMSAT's Board of Directors have not given up and we'd

welcome anyone that wants to help to try and build EMSAT into a model

state EMS association to join us in our tenacity.

I hope finds a way to revive EMSAT. CPR would be nice... LOL But the

point is that NO association can survive without adequate continuing membership.

The idea behind the formation of an Association is a good one. EMS in EVERY

state needs representation in that state. EMS as a WHOLE needs more

representation at the National level - and strong state EMS associations can

demand a LOT of national attention. Good luck, .

That raises a good question. Has EMSAT adequately studied the successful

efforts of other associations (if any)? Or are they stuck trying to reinvent

the wheel? That seems to be a common theme in EMS as a whole, failure to learn

from history.

I would say that to date we have looked at other associations but

studied might me to strong a word.

The meeting in WI was thier idea to bring state level EMS

orginizations to do more or less what you describe.

will be doing a report on the trip and we will post that on our

website in a few weeks.

The biggest hurddle since I have been on the EMSAT Board is we have

ideas and concepts to move in a direction but we lack manpower to move

on those ideas and concepts.

As Jane mentioned an orginization needs Members but more over we need

ACTIVE Members.
