I just checked both Thorne Captomer and VRP. They both smell and

taste yucky to me. Mercury can alter the senses of smell and taste.

Perhaps we are differently affected on this front. (FWIW, the

expiration on my Captomer is 5/08 and that on the VRP is 9/08.)

Actually, sniffing and tasting a tiny amount is not nearly as bad

as dividing up a bunch of capsules over a period of time. Even

15 minutes of that will stink up an entire room and my fingers

continue to stink even after washing them.

ALA is acidic. I would recommend splitting it into empty capsules,

since it is acidic enough to burn your throat (and possibly your

stomach if you are sensitive). Just something to be aware of.

I doubt that it's necessary. Many people have the experience you

describe with ALA - that's pretty normal. The difference in

experience with DMSA could really be due to differential mercury

effects, IMO.
