Guest guest
I don't post very often (but read boards every day) because everything has been going very smoothly with the diet! The SCD has been the answer to our prayers as Kaitlyn is now med-free since last September!!!!!!!!!!! Non-IBD child, age 7, question. The last time she took an antibotic (amoxicillin), she broke out in tiny red dots on her body. (Same thing happened to Kaitlyn, CD.) Anyway, Non-IBD child, Jules, has strep throat and was given Clindomycin yesterday. She's been having 103.5 temps. Third dose of antibotic given last night 11:30 p.m. with water. Vomited at 4:30 a.m. Do you think she is allergic to this too or did she vomit because she had an empty stomach? I wasn't thinking :-( Oh, and did I mention that at 9:30 a.m. today is Kaitlyn's graduation from elementary school and that we need to be at the airport at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon for a flight to Florida????? Dr. office opens at 8:00 a.m. and I will call then. Couldn't sleep since the 4:30 a.m. event! Any suggestions of a different, maybe milder, antibotic would be appreciated. Thanks and well-wishes to all newcomers to the SCD! - Kaitlyn & 's Mom
Guest guest
-Vomiting is not necessarily from allergy, but could also be related to your child just being sick. This said, I would consider asking for another antibiotic, as Clindamycin is associated with c.difficile infection in the bowel as a side effect. My son is allergic to penicillin/amoxicillin as well as well as Septra, and has done fine with other antibiotics. Some of the alternative antibiotics are very expensive for people to buy, so this may be one reason your doctor picked Clindamycin, in these current times of economic difficulties. -I do think it is important to treat the strep throat for the full course of antibiotics to avoid more serious complications, and hopefully you can get one you are comfortable with and have a nice trip and get some sleep!! -I am speaking as another mom, not a doc, but I do think you can call and ask for another antibiotic as there are many antibiotics that treat strep throat. Discuss your concerns as well as your price range because they range from very reasonable to expensive.
