If you have a cycle, your temps will vary depending on the time of the month. You still want to take them every day though, because there should be times when they will be within .2 day to day for awhile both before and after ovulation. I think the 98.6 goal only works for men and women without cycles. My husband's graph has absolutely no rhythm, mine has a definite up and down cycle. After looking at several websites, I believe a good average basal would be between 97.0-98.3, and a good daily average would be between 97.9-98.8. Again, these are average ranges, and just like thyroid ranges, some of us will be higher and some will be lower, but that might be a healthy temp for you. Use other symptoms like cold hands/feet, hair loss, blood labs, saliva labs, BP, weight, and just how you look and feel in general to help determine if you're getting better or worse.
