Guest guest
Gretchen - My advice is to be confidant and prepared to explain your symptoms. Keep a symptom journal for every day between now and your appt. Keep track of how you slept, what your pain level is, what your energy level is, and what kind of activities you were able to complete. If pain prevented you from doing something, also make a note of that. Doctors, especially specialists can often be intimidating. We all have to search for the best doc to help us with our symptoms. I saw a RH in the beginning 10 years ago to get my diagnosis. I saw him for 2-3 years after that, but it was a 40 minute drive to see him and he had the personality of a slug. I had a PCP that I just loved at the time, so I asked him if he would take over managing my FM meds, and he agreed. He also commented that the more specialized a doctor gets, it's like the more arrogant and impersonable they get. Hope this doesn't scare you. Hopefully, the doc you are seeing will be very good. Take care. Jeanne in WI Hi to all, My first rhematologist appt is on fri and I just realized something... I have never been to a specialist for anything before.. I mean like gyn for pregnancy, so on so forth, but nothing like this! I am really nervous! Everytime I see a dr I feel like a deer caught in headlights! And I have a hard time trusting dr.s anyway. I know you explain symptoms, and meds and such, but how do you do that? It seems like a stupid question, but need some guidence, scared to death! Thanks, gretchen

Guest guest
Just tell the doctor how you feel, be sure to write down your symptoms and also any questions that you want to ask. Be straight forward and don't let the doctor intimidate you. It is your money paying him or her so therefore they are your employee, say what needs to be said.
