What do you think, could it be the Lialda reacting to my > new diet differently and should I switch back to Asacol? When did you start it? Could be a bunch of things, really - but that would not be my first guess because of your symptoms of B and M and gas. To help lessen the M (mucus) restrict your dairy intake severely. How much yogurt are you eating? Yogurt can be problematic during periods of bloody flare - too much of it could conceivably keep on triggering an autoimmune response, since your intestinal cell walls are already being breached by bacteria. It could still be a reaction to the cashews that will take some time to go away. Stick with eating tons of broth for a while - and if you are okay with eggs, add a soft boiled egg, or just the yolk to the soup to make it richer. And add coconut to whatever you can think of - like baked apples - because to deal with the B you need something to help act as an antiinflammatory agent for your intestinal walls. Take epsom baths. Guest guest
Peg, How long on Lialda? Some people report gas, but not I. What is your dose of Lialda. Switching back and forth probably not a good idea, will confuse the issue. Sometimes, eliminating gassy foods, honey, eggs may help. Terry Lialda 1 -2 tabs every other day, now approx one year. UC one year Lialda vs. Asacol I posted earlier about not being able to get off of intro diet. I had an idea that it was possible that my meds-Lialda-were causing some problems. Since the day I went on Lialda, I experienced gas. Now I am wondering if my body is healing a bit & may be reacting to the Lialda differently. These gas pains are wicked!! When I run to the bathroom, I expect massive D only to find that it's nothing but gas, that doesn't even pass that easily! I wait forever and when/if I am able to pass any gas, it comes w/ blood & mucus. I can go back on Asacol...neither Asacol or Lialda seemed to help me anyway! What do you think, could it be the Lialda reacting to my new diet differently and should I switch back to Asacol? Thanks,Peggy H.
Guest guest
Lialda and Asacaol are both mesalamine, so the possible side effects should be mainly the same, including " flatulence " . There was a recent study that showed that " Mesalamine Once Daily Is More Effective Than Twice Daily in Patients With Quiescent Ulcerative Colitis " http://www.mdlinx.com/GILinx/newsl-article.cfm/2787708/ZZ9269815096133449235522/\ ?news_id=510&subspec_id=143 I read also that mesalamine was effective for only about 63% of patients, so maybe you need to try something else?
