You must first be accepted by a McKay participating school. Then you may apply

for McKay and when accepted you can switch to the private school at any time.

This usually happens pretty fast because all DOE has to confirm is that your

child has an IEP, has been enrolled for 1 year and has been accepted by a McKay

School. BUT the funding checks are done 4 times a year and I think the cutoffs

are 4 to 8 weeks before (September 1, November 1, February 1, and April 1) so

the checks may not start coming until the following cutoff.

I seem to remember the cutoff for the September check is July 1st

Do not leave the public school until AFTER you have acceptance in writing from

FDOE. This could create a problem. It is best to go right from public into the

private school with no interuption.

From the McKay site FAQ section:

http://www.floridaschoolchoice.org/Information/McKay/faqs.asp

Are first-year kindergarteners eligible for the scholarship program?

Yes. Students that have completed a year of pre-kindergarten may be eligible.

The student must have been enrolled and reported for funding in a Florida public

school during the October and February Florida Education Finance Program surveys

and was eligible for services for student with disabilities. The student must

also be 5 years old by September 1 of the school year in which he or she intends

to use the scholarship.
