Guest guest
Hi, The following are results to my most recent saliva hormone tests done at Diagnos-Techs. I would appreciate any input and suggestions: I am female, age 50, PostMeno. I am using progesterone cream approx. 12mg 24-26 days per month. I am not using any estrogen replacement. Taking 25mg HC per day for pronounced adrenal insufficiency. DHEA + DHEAS 2 (ref 3-10 ng/ml) Lab states this may indicate a stressed maladapted adrenal axis Testosterone 12 (8-20 pg/ml) Estrone 39 (26-64 pg/ml) Estradiol 9 (PostMen-No HRT 1-4 pg/ml) (HRT target range 5-13 pg/ml) Estriol 10 (PostMen No HRT 7-18 pg/ml) (HRT Target Range 14-38 pg/ml) Progesterone 488 (PostMeno No HRT 5-95 pg/ml) (HRT target range 100-300pg/ml) I notice Diagnos-Techs reference ranges are different than those of ZRT Labs. Interersting? I don't understand why my estradiol levels are so high. Also, 12mg of progesterone cream is a very modest dose, but my Progesterone levels went from 23 (2 years ago to 488 in just 2 1/2 months using the cream) Not sure whether or not to supplement DHEA because if I understand correctly, it can be converted to estrogen, which I don't need. I just don't know what to do, so any suggestions welcome. Thanks, Gladioli
Guest guest
Gladioli - I get some pretty eratic results from hormone therapies. For example, I don't seem to produce measurable testosterone on my own, yet just a tiny drip of compounded cream seems to build up to ridiculous levels in my system. DHEA converts to lots of testosterone & the harmful form of estrogen, while estradiol stays below normal. When I went through Andy's book, these things started to make sense for the first time and I've gone back to a prior doctor's recommendation to use only the 7-Keto form of DHEA. My doctors have worked with me through this for quite a few years & it takes a lot of trial & error. For the most part, I think the hormones I've taken just got dumped down the toilet anyway, because I haven't noticed much in terms of physiological response and assume my cells couldn't take them up. Mercury blocks up the liver detox pathways that also detox hormones. I'm through 6 rounds of chelation and starting to notice little sparks of sex drive returning, etc., and expect quite an up and down, trial and error process, as my liver clears out and more things start working properly. I added some ALA in the last two rounds and believe it has something to do with this. Among other things it makes the liver dump bile & I think my liver really needed it. (The hormone specialist that originally had me on 7-Keto DHEA was always making a big deal about cleansing the liver.) Although I'm the same age as you, circumstances are different because I had a complete hysterectomy 15 years ago. ERT has been extremely difficult ever since and it was pretty shocking to learn the rest of my hormones were also way off base 4 years ago. It's very surprising, when you're mercury toxic, how different saliva tests can be compared to blood work. Joanne

I went to see last month and she did the ZRT saliva hormone test on me. My progesterone was very deficient, so she put me on the cream also. My estrogen was normal, and my DHEA and testosterone were very low in the normal range, so she put me on a supplement with 25mg of DHEA and 25mg of pregnenolone. These are precursors to other hormones, but I think your body would only make them if they needed it, so it would probably be ok for you to supplement DHEA since your lab results were low. Do you have a doctor working with you on this hormone stuff? That is one reason I went to see , is because I couldn't find a local doctor who understood hormones and adrenal fatigue, etc. Or, haven't you consulted with Andy, if I remember correctly, could he help you with the results and what you should take? > > Jackie T. >
Guest guest
Gladioli, I stopped cycling about 5 months ago. I guess I am post-menopausal although I haven't really started thinking of it that way yet. I am 48. My estradiol and progesterone are almost identical to your numbers. I had taken only a few days worth of a very small amount of progesterone cream in the month before the test (Diagnos-Techs saliva). I am extremely sensitive to progesterone cream so I was using a very tiny amount. As far as I know the only way your body makes any meaningful amount of progesterone is if you ovulate, so I can't explain why we have such high progesterone levels when it would seem we are not ovulating. It is normal to have a certain amount of estrogen floating around after menopause, but I suppose if your body is not metabolizing it well, and breaking it down at a normal rate, then it would build up to a higher level than normal. I am not sure if this level is really a problem since I have no idea how they determine what " normal " is. I always had problems with my estrogen metabolism when I was cycling. I assume I have problems with sulfation, but I have not taken the liver pathways test. DIM, calcium d-glucarate and epsom salt baths helped with symptoms. Have you tested prolactin, LH, or FSH? That might tell you more. If those are high, that means your pituitary is sending signals to the ovaries to ovulate. I wonder of phos. serine would help with this. I am not sure. I also have low DHEA at 3. I am extremely sensitive to DHEA and had profoundly bad anxiety for many hours from a 2.5 mg dose. I haven't tried 7-keto - it does not convert to estrogen or sex hormones in general. 7-keto may not help me because estrogen does not cause that sort of reaction in me, so I think it was something else. I've been told my reaction probably has more to do with DHEA triggering adrenaline (which I normally have very little). The two labs might have very different ref ranges based partly on their different processing techniques, as well as differences in the sample of people they use to develop the ranges. So I don't think there is much value in comparing those - I could be wrong, but that's my understanding. Have you heard any suggestions about what these levels mean or what to do about them? I'd be interested in any opinions/advice you have heard. I'd also be interested in any good sources for reading/learning more about this, so if you, or anyone, has any pointers to information please do share them. -- > > Hi, > The following are results to my most recent saliva hormone tests > done at Diagnos-Techs. Guest guest
Lee's books are excellent. I think they're listed in the links section; if not, I'm certain I saw references to them at Andy's website.
