Personally, I was pretty intolerant a year ago - it really hurt my stomach. I am trying again and after a couple of months I can take up to 230 mg with some meals (it's actually a combo supp with betaine and enzymes, so I'm telling you just the amount of betaine). That is not a lot. A typical tablet I've seen is 500-600 mg. Since I'm still on the starting side of this, I don't know how it progresses - I imagine people vary quite a lot in what they tolerate to start and how quickly they are able to increase. Right now this betaine/enzyme stuff makes me quite bloated, but no pain or nausea or the like. This might be partly due to the bad beasties in there freaking out. Not sure. --

Guest guest
I was told by my altdoc to take a tablet 324mg with each meal - to use his precise meals " after 3 bites of food " . I was also taking digestive enzymes called Enzigest 3 by Synergistics (2 with the same instructions each meal). This helped my reflux & stomach pains and I still return to this when I start to get digestive problems, but do not use them all the time as this works out too expensive in comparison with what I now use more often which is a digestive enzymes combination by Now. Look at iherb.com for the Now one, which is cheap. Val Hi and all, What dose of Betaine HCL are we talking about and with each meal? Guest guest
I myself usually take 300-350 mg with each meal but I have taken up to 650 mg per meal with no ill effect. If I'm eating a big meal with a lot of meat, I usually go for the higher dose. ---Katharine DeanNetwork dean@...> wrote: > Andy says people with " all low " hair tests often feel better > when they improve digestion/absorption. I take 2 520 mg caps (Thorne brand) with breakfast and 3 each with lunch and dinnner. I also take digestive enzymes and 800 mg of ascorbic acid with each meal. (I take other forms of vit C between meals.) W.
