Guest guest
Sharon, I am thrilled with the Ampyra, even though I do seem to get the headache and the back pain and I thought I saw the nausea once... but that could have been residual from the tooth removal and the creeping crud type hoof-n-mouth disease that we've all been afflicted with the past week or so.. kind of hoping that the headache might be part of that as well. On Sunday, once I decided that it was time to actually get my bath & get ready to go to Mall Mart... I road my trusty wheels to the area outside the bathroom. I parked the chair and wall-walked, without leaning, into the bathroom. Somewhere between 6 & 8 feet. From there, I got down on the floor and actually scrubbed out my bathtub with Soft Scrub rather than scrubbing bubbles.. THEN.. I stood up and actually stepped over the tub side and into the tub, lowering myself into the tub.. all without the use of the tub transfer gizmo that I have!!.. After I finished my bath, I considered stepping out of the tub the same way I stepped into the tub... but then common sense took over and I decided that using the tub transfer to get out of the tub might be the wiser move. Wet feet and vinyl flooring might not be the best combination, especially after being "off my feed" for as long as I have been. I used the transfer to sit down and dry my legs and feet (and the rest of me too).. then I stood up outside the tub and wall walked back to my trusty road runner.. another 6 to 8 feet!!! I spoke with , my neurology nurse, this morning. I needed to get with them about getting the pre-auths on two medications for my secondary insurance. We talked about my success so far maybe being the placebo effect. She told me that she didn't believe that it was.. not with me noticing more and more improvement.. Oh.. and the journal Doctor wants me to keep, is because these guys are still "studying" some of the other benefits of Ampyra... because right now it's only been approved for "walking".. but could be approved for more and more things as the study progresses.. I mentioned that I don't seem to be having bladder spasms anymore.. though hesitancy is still a factor, and sometimes I think I'm done, and then find out that I'm not.. and I play musical toilets! But I'm not having to rush to get there anymore.. and can even ignore it somewhat while I'm sleeping now too depending on how much and what I've had to drink during the evening... I am totally excited!!! Now all I've got to do is find some type of journal to keep track of this stuff! HUGS |)onna Donna! That's great that you already see a difference with the Ampyra!! Let us know each day what improvements you are experiencing. How exciting!! hugs Sharon This email is a natural hand made product. Guest guest
Sure hope you can obtain some drug coverage next year.. Have you checked into the pharmaceutical company's assistance programs? I know that the brochure that came before the Ampyra states in there somewhere that the most the stuff will cost is $40 out of pocket.. yup.. here it is: AMPYRA Patient Support Services If you are prescribed AMPYRA, AMPYRA Patient Support Services will confirm your insurance and your eligibility for the co-pay mitigation program. What this means is, if eligible, people with private insurance may not pay more than $40 per month for their AMPYRA prescription (where allowed by law). What if I Don't Have Insurance? There is a program that may also help people who don't have insurance and whose income falls within a specific guidelines. They will work with you on the application process to see if you are eligible to receive AMPYRA at no cost. Contact AMPYRA Patient Assistance Program to learn more. Patient Support Services # 1- M-F 8am - 8pm ET. Not totally sure that you would also have to be on one of the modifying drugs or not.. Do know that my neurologist insisted that I be sticking to my Copaxone before he'd prescribe the Ampyra for me.. I do know that all the CRAB-T manufacturers have assistance programs too.. just need to find the numbers for them.. You could always call Patient Support for the Ampyra, and find out what the guidelines are for the no-cost program... and I would bet they have a wealth of information about different insurance programs and who covers what and to what extent.. which might also help when you start searching for a drug coverage insurance... Guest guest
Yup, it is oral.. must be spaced 12 hours apart (10mg x 2).. any higher dose or closer than 12 hours, raises the likelihood of a seizure. How did I get on the stuff.. Reading and researching on 'breakthroughs'.. oh.. way back in the day they were talking Antegren (which is now Tysabri) as an oral disease modifying drug.. the powers that be were also talking about Fampridine and the benefits of that drug. At that time one needed a "compounding" pharmacy to make up the drug for you.. and it hadn't been into "testing" phases then either. Off and on, I'd read about the progress of the studies for fampridine, and I'm pretty sure I remember reading that they were getting ready to conduct human trials... and then, of course, I was still dealing with the "meuron" so there was no likelihood that I'd even get in on those trials staying with him... So I let the thoughts of it go... Then my dad ran into some guy who was chair-bound at a Bingo game one night, who mentioned to him.. the Fampridine and that he was waiting for it to be on the market.. which sparked my interest once again... But still I was with the 'meuron'.. It wasn't until I started with my current neurologist that I started thinking about it again.. Then after the exacerbation in May 2009, and the screwing up of the knees leading to being unemployed and not walking so much anymore.. that I asked about the Ampyra (Dalfampridine - new manufactured renamed brand) and of course we went through the.. "You want me to prescribe a drug that costs in excess of 13k per year and you aren't even taking your Copaxone like you're supposed to?".. sooooo.. I went home without a script for it then.. but made absolutely sure that by the time my appointment arrived in April of this year (was scheduled for January, but doc was sick and had to reschedule) I was back to doing Copaxone, regularly (can't say that I remembered every single day, because not having a standard schedule.. trying to remember to do the injection wasn't always easy.. got it down now.. Ampyra, needle stick in the morning!..) so that he couldn't tell me "No" this time.. I do remember reading though, all those years ago when it was first brought to light.. that Fampridine was actually a poison used to deplete flocks of pigeons in cities!... and I wondered then just what made somebody wake up one morning and say.. "Hey.. I wonder??".. But I think we'd all pretty much be hard pressed to say "NO, I'm NOT going to do it!" if someone somewhere, proved that eating a cup of poop everyday would cure us of MS.. I'd pretty much bet that we'd all be lining up to grab a spoon! <grin> HUGS |)onna So Donna, how did you end up on Amprya? that is an oral one right?
HUGS |)onna Donna.... wonderful news on the Amprya for you. I'm so excited for you! Perhaps I will try it if I can get prescription drug insurance coverage next year. Right now I have no drug coverage and haven't for two years. hugs Sharon This email is a natural hand made product.
