Oh Donna, that is so funny! you're a regular dr. doolittle! I had a bird house a few years ago outside our kitchen sink window that had a pair of english sparrows living there. the next year they moved in again, but the something happened to the female and the male kept hanging on the tiny window frame rapping as though I took her. He did this for days on end so I finally took the house down, so sad!Sent: Tue, May 17, 2011 8:22:35 AMSubject: My outside birds

My American Goldfinch is BACK!!!!

First time I saw him was last year... and I'd never ever seen

one before that. told me, then, that his mother always

called them "Wild Canaries".. and they do resemble a house

canary, except they aren't all yellow and I think they are much

prettier than a house canary because of the sharp contrast of

the black piping/striping of their wings.

Just saw one of several pairs of Mourning Doves as well..

hopefully all of them will be back and I'll see all of them

lining the fence in search of a meal.

Have a NEW finch as well.. looks like it might be a Cassin's

Finch.. I had to go out and search the net to identify him/her..

but with the Red head I would think more him than her..

I have a bunch of different types of finches, sparrows &

sputzies. Some of the finches are very impressive. I think my

2nd favorite type of finch is the one or two with the dark black

heads with a white throat. The Goldfinch is my very favorite.

Haven't seen Mr. or Mrs. Blue Jay yet, but we've heard them. Mr.

& Mrs. Cardinal stayed around all winter. It seems that all

the birdies are back to the new bird feeder regularly now that

they've gotten used to it's red top. The old one was all green.

I just hope that the woodpeckers don't come back, because it

seems their favorite meal is my roof! I'm not real fond of the

Grackles either. Extremely beautiful bird, but they keep all the

others away from the feeder & the fence.

My squirrels are having breakfast now as well.. And I'm pretty

sure that I've seen all three of the squirrels this morning too!

Now if I could only sit on the porch and have them visit. When

I lived in CT, I did have a few squirrels that I swore knocked

on the slider door to get their daily helping of popcorn. They

definitely lined up and looked in the window, even when someone

was sitting at the dining room table!

Just had to share this morning!

What do you feed your finches? Do they only come to thistle? I'm planning to get some thistle to see if I can attract more birds. I feed black oil sunflower seeds and I have black headed grosbeaks swarming over the feeders! They are so fun to watch. I also have a few orioles, doves, lots of hummingbirds .... I also have a beautiful yellow bird with a black head that I haven't been able to identify. SharonThis email is a natural hand made product. We moved my computer out of the

little bedroom/computer room to the living room once I began to

spend so much time in front of my computer at home rather than

at work.. in the living room I can see out the big windows.. so

I can see what goes on outside rather than seeing nothing but

wall (it did help improve my mood a bunch)..

I have Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal.. and I'm sitting at my desk last

fall, next to the window.. I had started putting a bowl of bird

seed on top of the A/C outside the window after cooling season

had ended.. just to see if they'd get closer to the window...

They did!!.. Then one day I hear this tapping noise.. the bowl

was empty and Mrs. Cardinal came up to the window and tapped on

it until she got my attention.. hopped over to the bowl (at

least it looked that way to me).. then flew away.. That has

happened a couple of times... bowl or bird feeder empty one of

the birds comes and taps on that window.. LOL...

It is never a dull moment around here.. that's for sure.

The finches that I have coming,

are coming to black oil sunflower seeds, unshelled..

Haven't used thistle, or suet though we've considered

it..Switched to the black oil sunflower because the wild bird

mixture kept the Grackles hanging round chasing off the others..

and I didn't want anybody shooting the Grackles to get rid of

them.. they are a nuisance and make ugly noises.. but they are

pretty..

I saw a hummingbird the day after we hung out the fuschia, but

haven't seen it again because we took it down before it

drowned.. the fuschia, not the hummingbird.. but with the amount

of rain pouring out of the bottom of the fuschia, the

possibility of a drowned hummingbird was more real than not..

I'll start looking for pictures of birds... to see what I can

find.. www.whatbird.com is refusing to load right now

though...so I'll check a bit later..
