Guest guest
Nell: " I was having big sleep troubles too (much achiness and soreness) and I took 5 mg of Cortef at bedtime for about 6 months. " Thanks, Nell. I took 5 mg last night and slept. In fact, I even slept in a little! Boy, did I need it! " One thing I've found important is taking the doses on a rigid schedule. " What do you do when you wake up at different times? I am typically up between 5:30-6:30 a.m. The first I thing I want to do is get the HC in me so I don't feel so dead. So, some days I am taking it at 5:30 and others not until 6:30. Then I seem to need the next a.m. dose 3 hours later- I can't wait 4 hours yet. After the first 2 doses, I can dose 4 hours later. I am on 25 mg HC. I was hoping to stop at 20, but it just isn't working out that way. Thanks, Olif
Guest guest
Nell: " I take it first thing when I wake up, unless I wake unusually early for some reason. So it varies when I take the first dose but that doesn't seem to matter so much. " Okay, that is what I am doing. I am still not sure if I am taking enough in the morning. I wake up with low cortisol symptoms. After I take my a.m. dose (7.5 mg), the symptoms lessen but don't go away. Three hours later I take another 5 mg. Again, the symptoms lessen and sometimes go away. Then it is with my early afternoon dose that my symptoms go away and I start feeling wonderful (I suspect this is because my cortisol demands naturally decrease). I then feel really good all day, until late in the evening once it has been 5+ hours since my last dose. Taking 5 mg last night before bed enabled me to sleep through the night, finally! I did wake at 3 again, but fell asleep within 15 min. I am wondering if I should be taking 10 in the a.m. to avoid these symptoms in the morning. I see the doctor on Wed. I might wait until then to increase. This morning I ended up taking another dose an hour early (only spaced 2 hours apart), because I was ready to throw up. Sure enough, 30 min. after taking it, I am doing great- no longer nauseous, and I seriously thought I was going to vomit 30 min. ago! I took my first dose a bit later than usual, though, because I slept in (30-60 min. later). The morning is just still a little rough for me. I really think I need to increase, but I am trying hard not to! I was hoping I could stop at 15 mg, and now I am up to 25 mg and I suspect I need 30 for a little while. I want the doctor's input on this... I am not on Armour yet, so that could be a problem too. I am hoping this doctor will prescribe me that Wed. Guest guest
> I am thinking that you may be getting low blood sugar symptoms and > that eating a small amount of protein before going to bed might help Hi Olif, is right about the protein. I know that if I have some protein (like sardines especially) just before bed I will have longer hours of unbroken sleep. The 2 other things that ensure this are tryptophan (1000mg before bed) and I take some more if I wake up. And ornithine (2000mg before bed and more if you awake). I also find that if I take magnesium (especially an epsom salt bath) that I'm guaranteed good sleep, or even better if I go for a swift walk anytime from after dinner and before bed. I have not tried cortisol as late as you have.....but sleep is so important I just might if it helped so much...... For those of us that are hyper we know how important sleep is.... I don't know if there are any contra-indications to doing this....what does Jeffries say? (I don't have the book). Dean
