For example Cortisol regulates blood sugar. If you can regulate blood sugar with diet you will need less cortisol. See p 111-112, and 118-122 of " Amalgam Illness " . Insomnia may be from low Mg. See p 98-99 for tips to increase Mg. A warm epsom salt bath before bed may help. Chamomile tea before bed may help. If anxiety is a major problem, there are anti anxiety medications that are helpful. And other things that I'm not thinking of right now. J > Thanks, > Olif > > >
Guest guest
: " Insomnia may be from low Mg. See p 98-99 for tips to increase Mg. A warm epsom salt bath before bed may help. " I have not had problems sleeping until I started this HC though. It seems that it lowered my ACTH and now I am running too low at night. Last night I took 5 mg before bed, and I finally slept well all night. I take magnesium before bed, as well as 5-HTP and theanine. That always worked well, until I started HC. I have never had this shakiness and jitteriness until starting HC either. From what I am understanding, it is low cortisol. I am seeing a doctor on Wed., so I can talk to him about my HC dosing. This is good advice. A > warm epsom salt bath before bed may help. This makes a really big difference for me -- for achiness, Epsom baths are bliss. What symptoms exactly is messing up your sleep? Guest guest
Nell: " What symptoms exactly is messing up your sleep? " If I don't take any HC at night, I just plain can't get to sleep. If I take 2.5 mg, I can get to sleep, but I am waking up about 5 hours later with internal shakes and not able to get back to sleep. When I wake up, it is like I am abruptly awaken from a deep sleep- one second I am fast asleep, the next I am completely awake. Last night I took 5 mg right before bed and was able to get to sleep (in fact I fell asleep so fast after taking it that I don't even remember falling asleep). I also slept through the night. I woke up at 3, but was able to fall asleep on my own about 15 min. later. This was the best night's sleep I have gotten since starting HC about 2 weeks ago! I never had any problems sleeping until I started the HC. I have tried rice protein mixed with unsweetened almond milk (because the carbs are very low) before bed, and it doesn't help at all. I also take 5-HTP and theanine before bed. Since starting HC, this doesn't help either, unless I take HC at night. If I take my afternoon dose early, like around 3-4, it is difficult for me to even wait until bedtime to take more. I start getting internal shakes around 7-8 p.m. I have never had any of this until I started HC. I take pantothenic acid a few times a day, rhodiola in the a.m., tyrosine in the a.m. and vit C throughout the day to support my adrenals. I take about 600 mg magnesium daily, 300-400 of that taken before bed. I eat 3 meals and 2-3 snacks daily with protein. I have been doing this since last summer. So, any ideas what is going on?! I think my body is just demanding more HC. Thanks, Olif

Imagine your poor body deprived of cortisol for so long - it jams on the metabolic rate. Suddenly it is provided with cortisol and thinks, " Thank God now I can stated on this back-log of healing " . So maybe you do need a little more to catch up in the beginning? You gotta trust response (within the limits of safety that is) Also, your thyroid won't be convinced that this improvement in cortisol is going to last, so it will not yet have begun to trust the increase in cortisol to do its job properly. Maybe when you sort the thyroid out improvements will ensue? Tricky. Trial and error I guess? Dean

From what I am understanding, it is low cortisol. > If it is the same as what happens with me, I think it is from insufficient cortisol with excess adrenaline. When I get like this I also don't think clearly and get emotional. When it happens to me taking extra cortisol helps, often eating something helps, and burning off the adrenaline with something like a walk or a bike ride helps. > I am seeing a doctor on Wed., so I can talk to him about my HC >dosing. > I hope he is familiar with the use of physiological doses of cortisol. If he freaks out emphasize that what you are taking is less than a full replacement, physiological dose. Several doctors freaked right in front of my eyes when I told them I was on cortisol because they didn't understand the difference between prednisone and cortef and thought I was on a much higher dose than I am.
